It’s an “early” Rosh Hashanah (eve of Sunday September 9th) which for some retailers means ice cream, sorbet and frozen desserts.
Not that these products don’t sell year-round, say some of the retailers that spoke to Kosher Today, but sales are expected to be greater than usual for the frozen dessert items on the Jewish high holy days.
Preparations for Rosh Hashanah appear well under way as the new school year and the Jewish high holy days follow within days of Labor Day, the proverbial date for the end of summer.
The expected warm weather will also mean mixing the food with good chilled dessert wines, according to Royal Wines.
Some say that the warm weather is expected to have an effect on the Sukkot holiday as well as a record number of vacationers are headed to Israel for the holiday.
Travel agents say that many flights have been sold out for weeks on almost all major carriers, including those with stopovers in Europe. Sukkot programs in the US will also benefit from the early holidays which end this year in early October. The calendar, as usual, has a major effect on kosher, be it retail, wholesale, or travel.
