A LETTER FROM THE REBBE
There was once a lady named Mrs. Lazarov. The Rebbe once referred to her as a Tzikdonis, a pious woman. She wrote a letter to the Rebbe about the dirty condition of the streets in Crown Heights.
The Rebbe sent her letter to me with an additional comment saying, “Did you read the letter? This has been the situation tens of years. I will mention it for a blessing at the Rebbe’s grave site.”
The next day I received a call from Rabbi Krinsky who had been called to the Rebbe’s room and instructed, “Go to Yisroel Rosenfeld and ask him that he should show you the letter. If you will tell him that I sent you, he will show you the letter.” When Rabbi Krinsky returned and told the Rebbe that he had seen the letter, the Rebbe commented, “Ask him what he has already done about the situation.”
Rabbi Krinsky followed up with many phone calls asking for progress reports to relay to the Rebbe.
OUR INITIATIVE
In 2021, a new initiative to beautify and clean up Kingston Avenue, the main street in Crown Heights, was started by a local resident during the month of Tishrei.
During Covid, Sam Stern, a local businessman and activist from Crown Heights, started an initiative to clean up the streets of Crown Heights after a long period of time when the Sanitation Department wasn’t doing any street cleaning.
The campaign was a huge success B”H and the community’s response was overwhelmingly positive!
We are currently entering our third year of the cleaning campaign and once again we turn to our community, friends and fellow residents to join and support this effort as what started as a Tishrei project, has quickly become a year round operation.
As a community, we have thousands of people that walk through our streets on a daily basis to visit Crown Heights. The biggest impression we can make is of cleanliness which in turn is G-dliness. We ask that you please participate in funding our campaign and in ensuring a cleaner Crown Heights.
The services of a private street cleaning company will clean Kingston Avenue every morning. The street cleaners will sweep Kingston Avenue from Lefferts Avenue to Eastern Parkway every day throughout the month of Tishrei and will hopefully continue bi-weekly throughout the year.
Between the Tishrei festivities and foot traffic, it is simply too much for the NYC Sanitation to handle the street cleaning.
We need your help. Any amount will show you care and are happy to see this happen.
A committee has been formed to oversee this beautiful yet vital Project.

Should have alai to.l participate, not just with funding, but in raising an awareness to clean up on self, storeoweners for streets and homeowners for their sidewalks.
Please go beyond lefferts as well, to east new york, maple ect
Wow great job to all the people who are helping with this! Who have helped in the past and in the present and who will help in the future!
When you have trash, throw it in the trash can, not the street.
When you walk and see a piece of trash on the street, pick it up and throw it in the trash can.
Yes, it’s THAT simple.
Not other people’s gardens! Teach your children – hold on to that snack wrapper/drink container until they pass a trash can. Be a Mentch!!

I believe there was someone power washing 770 area before this initiative!
The City is not doing any cleaning whatsoever!
When was the last time you saw a street cleaner on Kingston Ave between Eastern Parkway and Union Street. Sadly, the place is filthy. Why is this allowed. And while I commend all those that are involved in tbis great project, the city and the sanitation department are NOT doing their job. This needs to be addressed to the highest office in this City. Why is this neighborhood being neglected by the city? We pay property taxes like everyone else, yet we don’t get the services. Shame on this City.
This is the Rebbe beautiful shuchana…..
Your garbage doesn’t belong on the floor…
The city shouldn’t EVEN need to clean up the filthy trash if only people cleaned up after themselves.
Much needed.
Can we please see the Rebbe’s letter?
Was there 2 weeks ago. It was filthy.
This is very nice but why are the stores not cleaning in front of their stores? They make a lot of money over tishrei. Why don’t they clean or pay for this as it benefits them?
As someone who lives on Troy I pay someone to clean up otherwise I will get a ticket. The businesses on Kingston should cover this expense
Thank you!!!
MUCH appreciated!!
770 should also be deep cleaned weekly
