I participated today in a wedding for a Jewish man I’ve met on my Mitzvoim visits. As the meal was being served, I went into the kitchen to verify the kashrus of the food.
The Mashgiach identified me as a Lubavitcher and said, “before we talk about kashrus, let me tell you a story about your Rebbe.”
Here’s what he said:
I was living in Minnesota around 30 years ago and was considering moving to New York. On one visit, I had the chance to daven with the Rebbe in his home (it was either in 5748 or 5749).
The Rebbe was giving out a dollar for charity and I got in line. I know there is no need to tell the Rebbe about my dilemma. The Rebbe would answer on his own.
I passed by on line, the Rebbe gave me a dollar and blessed “Bracha v’hatzlacha” (blessings and success) and I continued walking.
Later, I looked at the dollar and saw the Rebbe answered me.
Every U.S. dollar bill has a black circle on the left. One of the names of the States in America are written there.
The dollar I received said “Minnesota.” For me, the answer was clear: Stay in your home state of Minnesota.
3 months later I came again to New York for a visit and again passed by the Rebbe to receive a dollar and a blessing.
In the circle on this dollar bill the state written was New York. I understood that now is the opportune time to finally move.
