Welcome to COL Monday Torah: What is the place of the ego in Chabad Chassidus? Tonight, Rabbi YY Jacobson, a world renowned lecturer and spiritual leader of congregation Bais Shmuel Chabad in Brooklyn, explores the tension between selfhood and selflessness in Chabad. Are we telling our children they are “nothing” too early in the process?
This class will journey through hundreds of years of Biblical scholarship, and into layers upon layers of depth and meaning, explaining one mitzvah of Vayikra. Specifically, the four layers of Orchard of Torah: Simplicity, Allegory, Allusion, and Mysticism (Pshat, Remez, Drush, Sod).
We will discover how in this seemingly simple commandment the Torah is teaching us lessons in the historical transformation from idolaters to believers, in the education of youth, in the art of healthy living, and how to balance and find a healthy integration between unhealthy arrogance and a healthy (and necessary) ego.
Although many of the interpretations given seem divergent and even disagreeing, we will find the unifying key that shows the beauty and convergence of all of the explanations into one harmonious whole.
The class is aired weekly on TheYeshiva.net and on COLLive.
Beautiful class. Thank you
