This past Wednesday night, pride in being a Jewish woman came to life in a particularly moving way at Machon L’Yahadus.
A student who had never celebrated her Bas Mitzvah decided it was time to do something about it – not just for herself, but for her peers as well.
Moved by the realization that many girls in the school had never experienced this meaningful milestone, Ariella M took it upon herself to plan and create a full Bas Mitzvah celebration. What resulted was an unforgettable evening filled with food, joy, introspection, guests, beautiful décor, dancing and of course, a take-home craft.
The color scheme was pink and all of the “Bas Mitzvah girls” – as well as their fellow-students and friends – dressed in color.
During the festive meal and before dessert, each Bas Mitzvah girl shared a Torah thought or what the moment and celebration meant to her. After dessert – a cake specially created for the event for student chef Shaina who is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of American – everyone decorated tambourines.
The tambourine became a personal piece of art, a reflection of the journey each girl has walked to reach this moment.
From there, the celebration flowed into dancing, photos and lots of warm words and laughter.
“This isn’t just a party,” one student, Shuli G from Argentina, shared during the evening. “It’s a chance to honor the Jewish women we’ve become, to celebrate how far we’ve come, and to acknowledge and keep nurturing our relationship and connection to Hashem.”
What made the night even more meaningful was knowing that it was initiated, planned, and led by a fellow student – someone who took her own gap and turned it into a gift for others.
In true Machon L’Yahadus spirit, it wasn’t just about looking back at what was missed. It was about moving forward with joy, confidence, and sisterhood – tambourines in hand.
As we celebrate this special milestone in the lives of these young girls, let’s continue to support their growth and development in Torah learning. Machon L’Yahadus is offering a unique opportunity to contribute to the future of these students through their Gimmel Tammuz Raffle.
All funds raised will go directly to the Scholarship Fund, helping to ensure that more students have access to the transformative education Machon L’Yahadus provides.
The raffle features exciting prizes, including a Rebbe Dollar, Coin, Kuntres Purim Katan, Split the Pot, and a $1500 Gift Card to Tzfasman Jewelers.
