As Chabad houses around the world are preparing for Pesach this Sunday morning, an outrageous article has caused a stir on social media.
Politico, a mainstream political news and gossip site, published an article about Chabad and their alleged connections to President Donald Trump that many are calling preposterous, and some claiming it is outright anti-Semitic. The article has since been tweeted by New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman.
Four months ago, after the presidential election, an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory began making the rounds on social media. Since then the theory of an international Jewish conspiracy attempting to take over the world, led by the Chabad movement around the globe, has been propagated by neo-Nazi bloggers and right wing conspiracy theorists.
What started with a video posted to youtube months ago, has made its rounds throughout the dark corners of the internet on various conspiracy blogs and has now hit the pages of an ostensibly mainstream website.
The meandering and difficult to follow article attempts to connect Russian President Vladimir Putin to Trump through a series of donors to Chabad and Trump family members and friends who have visited various Chabad centers and events.
The article starts off by saying “the Port Washington Chabad, a Jewish community center on Long Island’s Manhasset Bay, sits in a squat brick edifice across from a Shell Gas station and a strip mall. The Chabad is an unexceptional building on an unexceptional street, save for one thing: Some of the shortest routes between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin run straight through it.”
Those familiar with Chabad are aware that all Chabad centers are independently run, as the Chabad house network is run essentially as a franchise.
The article is also full of anti-Jewish rhetoric, discussing both Trump’s “kind of Jew” and Putin’s “kind of Jew,” as well as poses the question of whether Jared Kushner should be given security clearance.
Many have taken to Twitter to respond:
We wrote a few weeks ago about “Putin’s Rabbi” Berel Lazar reaching out to a Trump aide. More here on Chabad/Putin https://t.co/c7vPrASfpK

.@politico This is literally the embodiment of irresponsible journalism. @SchreckReports‘s piece will live on white supremacist sites for years to come

.@blakehounshell @politico What do you call a conspiracy that takes place on the eve of Passover & accuses Jews of working as a cabal. There’s a term for that, right?

If you think that Chabad is the secret link between Trump and Putin, you’re doing journalism wrong https://t.co/28z2v9VnZ7

Chabad has over 4000 centers worldwide, most run on a shoestring, many are in debt depending on generous benefactors to survive.
There is a very small number of Chabad Rabbis who are powerfully connected, these are few and far between.
The article quoted is sensationalism mixed with speculation lacking credulity.
Gutter journalism.

Good point you make there 😂😂😂
And this is including all these chabad houses mentioned
It’s actually quite funny!
The only issue with it is, that it doesn’t make sense why every Chabad House is still in debt 🙂
Good Yom Tov fellow mobsters!
It’s actually quite funny!
It’s not controversial because it makes any major revelations, it’s inflammatory and borderline anti-Semitic because of the assumptions and implications made. Its fairly obvious that trying to piece together seemingly disconnected people and organizations, and give them some kind of mysterious/malevolent power-grabbing intent, simply because they’re Jewish or connected to Jews, religious ones at that, plays into an age-old stereotype about Jewish scheming to run the globe.
and it doesn’t sit well with me!
Lubavitchers are being watched closely wherever we go, whatever we do. As long as we’re clean, the rest is in Hashem’s hands.
the article is so full of ignorance about chabad its comical it makes me lough they reaaaaalllyyy dont know what chabad is
and about the ridiculous conspiracy its ludicrous it’s not really saying much there are thousands of jews (50% of jews if im not mistaken) that go to chabad
They are so far left, nothing they write is all that surprising, including an article that gins up anti-Semitism.
I read the whole article and it’s not really saying much other then Kushner went to Chabad. Ivanka went to Chabad, Lev Leviav went to Chabad, and Sapir goes to Chabad. True it’s all in different areas but that’s about all it boils down to. Of course big Chabad donors will work with one another, so no surprises there either. I don’t see why this article is particualy big news, or inflamatory.
scroll down to see the post with Cuomo, Deblasio and other democrats. Or are these politicians secretly part of the Trump/Putin/bigfoot conspiracy theory???
What will be?
Even the Goyim admit that Chabad has a major impact on the world! Did the Rebbe not say Ker A Velt?!
It’s Hashgacha Pratis that this comes right after Shabbos Hagadol and Yud Alef Nissan.
Moshiach Now
The Chabad Houses are hardly ‘franchises’ but very closely and commonly interconnected. The Politico article does offer a rather convoluted case and framework. While it will, regretfully, be abused for that confusion, it is worth a read through.
The Lubavitch movement is politically hard Right and, sadly, interconnected with the pro-Trump ‘movement.’
The Lubavitchers also have clear connections to America’s Christian Zionist movements who pretend pro-Israel while bringing an incredibly anti-Semitic agenda based on their New Testament interpretation.
More accurate; less emotive information and thought on both sides of this discussion would be most useful.
“vehi sheumda lavosaino VILONO -and us.
1)A modern day blood lible.
2)There just jealous
The Baal Shem Tov taught that whatever comes your way is by Divine Providence. Seems to me the take away message is to ask if Chabad is too close to and trying to be too close to government officials, and is their money clean. If all is good, great. If not, this is the perfect time to rid of that puffed up arrogance
Chabad equals bigfoot. We were hiding it behind our beards the entire time!

Call them and respectfully tell them how you feel. 703.647.7999
Not only is this true, but Chabad is behind so much more than just this! in truth, Chabad is part of an alien overlord’s plot to take over the world. They do this by increasing the prices of strawberries, and putting Trump in charge. Because Trump is the gematriyah of orange invaders, which means pizza’s coming! All hail the sausages!!!!
It’s Pesach folks—moovin’on! Moshiach Now!
But if you listen to many “establishment” Jews (reform or MO) and anti chabad orthodox litvish, you will hear them spout the similar rhetoric against chabad, that sometimes seems like it’s straight from “the protocols”. Chabad is the Jew’s Jew. Like anti semitism in the outside world, it’s always ok to be anti chabad. From left wing reform to satmar…
And of course Rabbi Shmuley – “America’s Rabbi” is the one to provide the spark to the fire…
I read the article and don’t see any anti Jewish rhetoric per se rather just a set of facts and assumptions. They don’t even come to any conclusions. But it forsure can be used by anti semites as proof for their own biases against Jews which is never a good thing. Either way what is absurd to me is out of so many things to write about you pick this? Are you insane? The political rhetoric has gone more extreme by the day.
If Chabad could serve as a bridge between the two countries, what would be wrong with that. Indeed, it is true that chabad is close to both leaders.
