Abraham’s Tent, a unique hostel in the center of Jerusalem, has opened recently to provide lodging, meals, and more to visitors of the Old City.
An open home and hostel for English speaking young adults visiting Israel, the center provides an opportunity to experience Judaism and Israel in a fun and meaningful way.
The center was founded by Rabbi Yosef Eichenblatt and his wife Sorale, who until 6 months ago were on Shlichus in Sydney, Australia.
“We were visiting Israel and saw how thousands of young adults come every year and are inspired to connect to Judaism and Israel,” Yosef Eichenblatt told COLlive. “Yet when they return home the inspiration fades. With today’s assimilation rates in mind we felt that this was an opportunity we could not let slip by – Abraham’s Tent provides a link between the inspiration experienced in Israel and the continuation of it in one’s life and community,” he said.
The center organizes Shabbatons, tours, and social events, and houses a library, Internet Cafe and provides travelers information.
“At Abraham’s Tent, Israel becomes more than just a tourist destination,” says Eichenblatt. “It enables visitors to enjoy a small taste life of as an Israeli. Living in Israel even for a short period of time is a life altering experience.”
Abraham’s Tent is dedicated in memory of Kazi Benjamin obm, who passed away in September of 2011 at the age of 25. A dedication event will take place Wednesday, May 16 at Itchke’s Shteible in Crown Heights at 7:30 pm.

This is great!
Anyone that knows Yosef and has seen his beard know for certain that this project will be a huge success. Hazlocha!
As the Rebbe taught us that we must keep in mind that tznius is paramount and even if we are doing something good, if it can’t be done in a tznius way, then it shoudn’t be done.
I give this couple a bracha that they should be able to keep the appropriate standards of tznius as laid out in halacha among their guests, and also as a individuals and as a couple.
Such an project, although a wonderful idea, can bring lots of challenges in terms of appropriate tznius.
