Arutz Sheva reports:
Inspectors from the Tel Aviv municipality ordered a Chabad rabbi to cease putting tefillin (phylacteries) on passersby who wish to do so and threatened to levy a fine if he would not consent.
For many years, Chabad men have set up stands all over Israel, including Ben Gurion airport as well as in many other countries, offering to help Jewish men put on tefillin if they so wish. On Friday, an inspector from the Tel Aviv municipality told a Chabad rabbi to close down his tefillin booth in Tel Aviv’s Ramat Aviv neighborhood because he did not possess a permit. The inspector warned that the rabbi would receive a heavy fine should he refuse to do so.
In September, a Chabad rabbi was slapped with a NIS 736 ($209) fine from Herziliya city municipal inspectors for offering passersby the opportunity to put on tefillin, causing national furor.
Agudas Chasidei Chabad, the umbrella organization for Chabad emissaries had said that “it’s hard to believe that out of all the places around the globe where Chabad emissaries help Jews put on tefillin and connect to their parents’ tradition, only in Israel will a person be fined or brought to court for it. Not in New York, not in Moscow’s Red Square, not in London or at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. Only in Herzliya, a city in Israel.”
The Tel Aviv municipality has not responded to Friday’s incident in Ramat Aviv.
And after all the attacks on #5 no one has offered any proof that s/he is actually wrong. On the contrary, it is sad to see that once where Anash would defend each other against critics of our Rebbeim’s ways, now Chabadnicks gang up and attack someone who is only pointing out the obvious. Sad how this sad story has only brought out more sadness.
Permit, no?
If the permit is denied, then you know the truth, no?

go peddle your propaganda elsewhere. Are you aware that the Satmar Ruv did kiruv in his own way, such as saving Russian and Morrocan Jews, not to mention how he bolstered everyone after the holocaust? Just because he did not agree with the Rebbe on this thing doesn’t mean that your description is the case. If anything , it proves (unfortunately) what he was saying all along (see comment # 2, although he expressed it in a sharp way). Please cut it out. You make chabad and the Rebbe’s representatives look ignorant and narrow minded. Read the satmar Rov’s bio… Read more »
What does “Satmar” have to do with this????
I would rather blame the people who abused the politicians in tel aviv as children and messed up their minds.
עד מתי מלך המשיח
It’s a crying shame for the Jewish state to offend the one group of people who do so much good all over the world. They don’t harangue you – they just ask. This action says more about Tel Aviv and the snobs who live in Ramat Aviv than the people of Israel who mostly admire Chabad.
Is it the chabad way always to attack and blame any other Yidden who aren’t chabad? With every article we see it more and more. Why is it that only chabad can’t seem to get along with anyone? So sad.
Needs to put on tefillin
But what is being done?? The Rebbe wants action. This must go to get dealt with and not just solved, but like some one above said! In a way of Yerida ltzorech aliyah!
Satmar took over Tel Aviv? If they did that then everyone would be putting on tefillin without the need for any of our mivtzoyim!
inaccurate to say that one won’t be fined for putting on Tefillin at Eiffel Tower- it is forbidden by law and bochurim have gotten arrested for doing so…Or, was that only applying to asking people on Champs Elysees?
why do you need to retort to lashon harah on a group of your fellow yidden.
I myself am trying to become to close to yiddishkait, but nothing turns me off more than when one tries to look down on some one who may not agree with you.
I have met several satmer chasidim, and I found them to be eidel, caring yidden with yiras shamayin and I have been directly helped by their chessed organizations.
Shalom al yisrael
Everyone should flood the office of the P. M. And and the municipal office of Hertzilia with emails ,saying that if this happened anywhere else it would have been considered an antisemetic incident …
The inspector is living proof that artzainu hakdosha suffers greatly from Golus, contrary to the thinking of those who say
It’s Ischalta Degeulah.
But please ,let us not use this incident as a springboard to spread sinas chinom. Just work harder to do mivtzoyim, and reach every yid ,. Am Yisroel Chai.
If it was any other place they would say it is Anti-Semitism.
we are always our worst enemy, starting from erev rav, yvsektsia ,mosrim, and now the leftists are just so against against against, as each yomtov comes theyll announce how milchigs arent good, doughnuts arent good, matsa no good, o my Hashem |Yerachem scary
All these oppositions usually get flipped over and result in more mitzvahs and more mivtzoim. I am just excited to see how it plays out.
You are very pessimistic, you look at one case and make a statement..
Clearly Satmar influence has gotten to the city of Tel Aviv. For years, the chiloni didn’t care. Satmar, on the other hand, always argued that we have no right to put tefillin on Jews who are not frum and who did not do neggel vasser. It is obvious that Satmar have won over the hearts and minds of Tel Aviv. This, unfortunately, is the ugly result…
Ad mosai!
It’s time for Yossi gerlitsky to show some power , let’s what he can accomplish . Let’s go Joe
after the dust settles it may work out for the best!
another part of Herzelstan’s war on frum people and Hashem…heartbreaking. MOSHIACH NOW
