Wednesday, 23 Sivan, marked the conclusion of the first segment of Enhanced Teachers’ Mental Health Training Course.
Since Chanuka, Dr. Dovid Schwartz has been going into Oholei Torah Mesivta to have an open discussion with the Principals, teachers, Mashpiim and Mashgichim about matters of mental and emotional health.
The course covered a wide range of topics on an introductory level, yet the ensuing, often lively, discussions, ventured into the more advanced and delicate areas of psychology and Torah.
The course covered topics such as recognizing mental disorders, understanding teenage addictions, recognizing signs of abuse and its effects, the basics of counseling.
The goal of the course was to empower teachers to develop strong bonds with students, to give teachers the tools they need to best guide those in their care, to train teachers to notice when something, g-d forbid, is amiss and what channels are available for them should they need assistance if something were to come to their attention.
The training was provided by Neshamos.org with the full cooperation, assistance, and endorsement of the Menahel Rabbi Zusha Wilhelm.
Rabbi Wilhelm, who himself partook in the course, said: “The course gave us new insight to see the neshoma of the student and see him as a whole person. It taught us how to approach the difficulty’s that the student is going through in his life. Every minute of the course was incredibly informative.”
