On Sunday the Rebbeim and English teachers of the Lubavitcher Yeshiva of Ocean Parkway came together to fine tune and hone their educational skills.
A guest speaker for professional development was invited to attend a Yom Iyun in order to address the entire staff on the subjects of “checking (your students) for understanding,” knowing if you are reaching the whole class, and ways to motivate your students.
Rabbi Dr. David Jacobson flew in from California and spent the day at the yeshiva elaborating in part on how educators must never assume that students understand the lesson, but must continually find ways to measure and check their level of understanding.
In his unique style of speaking, Dr. Jacobson even explained the things teachers should be wary of that might not get them the desired results.
“Everyone was truly excited and inspired and all are looking forward to Dr. Jacobson’s return to follow up in the classroom to insure the lessons discussed and learned were applied,” Rabbi Shmuel Dechter, school Principal said.
“This has been one of the many programs instituted at ULY Ocean Parkway in our quest to keep the educational level here on an ever upward trend,” he said.
Whoever is on board with this is to be highly regarded, in my opinion. Rather than walking with their heads in the sand, they are acting as intelligent educators with the student as the focus of their jobs. I am so thankful and impressed.
is amazing
This place needs more help than rabbi jacobson can offer. It needs a whole new remake. Maybe one day it can be like the days of old. The Yeshiva needs Rabbi Bogomilsky back.
