The class is going great, the kids are engaged, and absorbing the lesson … until a child speaks up and says loudly “I’m so bored”. All it takes is one or two incidents to derail the lesson.
“It doesn’t have to be that way,” says Rabbi Levi Feldman. “With the right approach and tools, the classroom atmosphere transforms to one where every child has an individualized plan that helps him become an enthusiastic, thriving student.”
Rabbi Feldman has become a sought-after education consultant, offering workshops and seminars for teachers in his native Crown Heights, as well as Borough Park, Flatbush, Chicago, Los Angeles and numerous other communities.
Unlike others, he’s no education lecturer, he’s a teacher. “It is very rare that you get a teaching course from a teacher with many years of experience who is still teaching full time in the classroom,” says Rabbi Yosef Wolowik of Los Angeles. “With Rabbi Feldman, it’s not theory,” says Rabbi Hershel Lustig, veteran Oholei Torah Dean, “It’s based on what’s tried and tested in the classroom.”
After years of teaching, Rabbi Feldman became a licensed education coach and launched Art of Chinuch to share skills he had learned with others. Billed as “Positive Discipline”, Rabbi Feldman’s methods are based on Chassidic teachings, most notably Klalei Chinuch V’Hadracha.
Aside from being in the classroom himself every day, Rabbi Feldman consults with dozens of teachers and adjusts the workshops based on feedback from participants. Rather than instructing, he says he’s “a colleague sharing successful ideas.” Rabbi Feldman’s workshops offer a clear, focused path, designed to give teachers clarity and confidence to actually implement the methods.
Rabbi Feldman’s knowledge, clarity and passion have become valuable commodities for teachers across the spectrum of the Jewish community. “As a first-year teacher, jumping into school was daunting,” says Mrs. Leah Deren of Pittsburgh, PA. “But what kept the classroom running were the reminders, tips, and tools I gained from Rabbi Feldman’s classes.”
Art of Chinuch offers personal coaching, workshops and seminars to teachers and principals throughout the year. Of the most popular services are the summer intensive training sessions, which feature two weeks of immersive instruction for teachers of all grades, covering complex student behaviors, parent communication, lesson planning, and differentiated instruction.
Says Mrs. Deren, “Clearly, Rabbi Feldman’s Positive Discipline model works. Really well.”
Rabbi Feldman’s summer training for women begins on Monday, July 20, and the men’s course begins August 10. Registration and more information is available at artofchinuch.com
