True hiskashrus is through learning the Rebbe’s Torah, as emphasized in Hayom Yom for 24 Sivan—a message that deeply resonated during the recent days of preparation for Gimmel Tammuz.
In that spirit, a special symposium was held on Thursday evening, Rosh Chodesh Tammuz, at the Zal of Chovevei Torah, 885 Eastern Parkway, marking sixty years since the Rebbe began his revolutionary approach to explaining Rashi’s commentary on the Torah at Shabbos farbrengens in 5725.
The evening featured leading scholars and mashpi’im known for their expertise in the Rebbe’s Torah and particularly his distinctive methodology in learning Rashi on Chumash.
Rabbi Tuvia Bloy, renowned author of Klalei Rashi, addressed the audience via a special broadcast from Eretz Yisroel, sharing deep insights into the foundational principles of the Rebbe’s derech halimud.
Rabbi Avraham Baruch Pevzner, prolific author of seforim on the Rebbe’s Torah, presented a powerful chiddush the Rebbe revealed in one of the Rashi sichos, leaving the crowd with a renewed appreciation for the depth of these teachings.
A spirited panel discussion brought together scholarship and firsthand memories of the Rebbe’s Rashi sichos at 770. Participants included:
Rabbi Nachman Shapiro, who was zocheh for many years to prepare the weekly hanachos that were edited by the Rebbe.
Rabbi Aharon Shapira, Rav of Pardes Katz and head of Mesivta d’Rashi, who shared his extensive work on Rashi and the Rebbe’s teachings.
Rabbi Michoel Aharon Seligson, mashpia in Oholei Torah Mesivta, noted for his expertise in the history of Dor Hashvi’i.
Rabbi Shalom Dovber Avtzon, acclaimed historian and author of the Rebbeim Biography Series.
Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Katzman, mashpia in Crown Heights, who shared vivid personal experiences from the Rashi sichos over the years.
The evening concluded with maariv followed by a warm farbrengen in preparation for the holy day of Gimmel Tammuz.
The event was organized by the Va’ad HaMosifin of Crown Heights and streamed live at 60rashisichos.com, allowing a global audience to take part in the inspiration.
Organizers expressed their hope that the symposium will continue to inspire renewed chayus in the study of the Rebbe’s Torah in general—and the Rashi sichos in particular—until we merit to be reunited with the Rebbe and hear Torah chadasha from Moshiach Tzidkeinu, with the coming of the complete geulah.
