Mrs. Tzivia Libba (Sylvia) Borenstein, a long time resident of Montreal and member of the Lubavitch community there, passed away on the Friday, 29th of Adar II 5779.
She was 95 years old.
She was predeceased by her husband Rabbi Yosef Borenstein OBM, who escaped the clutches of the Nazis in the Second World War and was one of the students of the Lubavitch Yeshiva in Shanghai, China before immigrating to Canada.
She is survived by her children Rabbi Eliyahu Dovid Borenstein – Florence, Italy, Rabbi Moshe Nachamn Borenstein – Crown Heights, Rabbi Levi Borenstein – Crown Heights, Rabbi Yankel Borenstein – Poughkeepsie, NY, Mrs. Esther Malka Levertov – Crown Heights, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brother Moshe Fried of Staten Island, NY.
The levaya will take place today (Friday) in Montreal.
The family will be sitting Shiva starting Sunday morning at 37 Balfour place, Brooklyn, NY.

Mrs. Borenstein, “Tante Sylvia,” was an amazing woman: warm, funny and a joy to know and to love.
