Dor Yeshorim’s annual Crown Heights premarital screening event is right around the corner.
On Sunday, December 4th, 2016, Dor Yeshorim’s expert teams of phlebotomists and representatives will be visiting Oholei Torah in Crown Heights, offering their lifesaving genetic screenings.
Following the outstanding success of Dor Yeshorim’s female premarital screening just a few weeks ago, Dor Yeshorim will be performing male screenings for yeshivas throughout the day, followed by public testing. Participants must arrive promptly at 7:45PM and head to the fourth floor to be eligible for screening.
Dor Yeshorim’s premarital screening program is the only proven way to eradicate these recessive diseases and assure b’ezras hashem, healthy generations. Under the guidance of halachic authority, the premarital screenings were designed on the premise of protecting the confidentiality of all those it tests. In doing so, they help individuals avoid the heartache and stigma associated with knowing that one is a carrier and the subsequent jeopardization of other shidduchim.
It is also necessary for Sephardim to receive testing, as they are just as susceptible to genetic diseases as Ashkenazim. Through intense research and testing development, Dor Yeshorim now tests for an additional 13 diseases prevalent in the Sephardic community.
Compatibility checks are easy, simple and free. Within three to four months, the results of the screening will be available. Dor Yeshorim also offers expedited results for an additional fee.
With the help of generous donors teaming with Dor Yeshorim to make its genetic screenings accessible and affordable for everyone, Dor Yeshorim offers the tests to all participants at a highly-subsidized fee.
Dor Yeshorim encourages all young singles to get tested early, before entering the world of shidduchim and becoming emotionally involved in a relationship. By doing so, they can be spared the anxiety of having to wait for results while in the throes of the shidduch process.
Dor Yeshorim also assists families affected with debilitating and rare genetic diseases. Our groundbreaking genetic research has allowed us to identify many disease-causing genetic mutations and develop testing methods to prevent them from recurring in Klal Yisroel.
Through its genetic testing programs, Dor Yeshorim has been responsible for saving more than 4,760 families from having children born with fatal recessive genetic diseases. Because of their work, they have been able to save Klal Yisroel so much pain and anguish, helping to ensure that our children are born healthy.

Anyone who has a family member who is suffering from a genetic disorder can attest to the fact that proper testing is essential!
Although Dor Yesharim was the first organizational of its kind, they unfortunately don’t do all of the necessary screening which leads us to a false sense of security for ourselves and our children.
I would recommend you do your own research before blindly following the masses by being in contact with organizations such as Jscreen.org and Jnetic.org for proper guidance in this very necessary test.
Should not be optional but mandatory!! As well there are additional genetic diseases not being tested for!! Be educated!!
There are actually 39 ashkenazik genetic diseases. Even doing the full panel does not cover all the diseases. JScreen.org is a much more comprehensive test and is very affordable.
I have a family member who did not take the extra screening and they are dealing with a child with a life threatening illness.
You MUST take the extra panel for further testing.
See Jnetic.org or Jscreen.org for more information.
Does it matter? Get tested, please, for the welfare of yourself and family. Any cost is worth is. Believe me, knowing if you’re a carrier of a disease can save you an immense about of future pain. (Il;e having a child with TAY-Sachs.)
The optional test covers only 16 out of the the 38 genetic diseases. If you don’t choose the option you are tested for only 9. Let’s EDUCATE ourselves with the Emes. Don’t trust me, check this out for yourself.

I highly recommend all individuals with whom I work to have the BASIC and the extra optional test. It is not that much more expensive. No extra blood needs to be taken. And definitely pays to take the extra precautions.
