A family picture of five children got the most votes in the Annual COLlive Purim Costume Contest that ended Sunday, March 27, 2011 with kids from around the world sending in photos of themselves in creative and adorable costumes.
First place winner, receiving an iPod Nano from Sterling Electronics, is the Sudak family from Crown Heights – Esther – 10, strong>Bentzion – 8, Chezky – 7, Shneor – 5 and Bryna – 3.
“We did a lemon theme for Mishloach Manos this year, where we gave out glass pitchers etched with the recipient’s name, which was filled with lemons and a citrus Smirnoff bottle,” their creative mother Chanie Sudak told COLlive.com.
“Attached we had a bag filled with Rock Candy and a lemon shaped card that read “When the Sudaks give you lemons – make lemonade” (a play on the saying – when life gives you lemons make lemonade).
“On the back of the card we included a recipe for lemonade,” she added. “Going along with the theme – all the children were dressed up in home-sewn lemon costumes.”
SECOND PLACE
There were 184 contestants from around the world in this year’s Purim contest. COLlive readers chose the winners by rating them 1 to 5 stars. Votes were calculated based on average rating and amount of votes.
Second place went to Rozie Givre from Baltimore, Maryland, who will be getting a Coby SNAPP Mini Camcorder/Camera from Sterling Electronics.
“We are so excited!” her artistic mother Sheva Givre, a blogger and illustrator, told COLlive.com after hearing about the win.
“Rozie is 19 months-old and she has the brocha of Down syndrome,” she said. “Her costume was a pretty princess because that is what she is – our perfect little princess.”
Givre said she made the costume from scratch and showed on her blog MyShtub.blogspot.com how it was made. “You can read more about Rozie and our family there,” she added.
