ULYOP hosted a Grand Virtual Farbrengen for all students and their families on Motzei Shabbos to mark the day of Yud Shvat.
For weeks the students prepared for the auspicious day by learning the Maamar Basi L’Gani. Then, every class worked on a skit, living and enacting the various stories from the maamar. To make the skit, the children had to learn the stories, write their own script, create a small number of props, organize and manage the scenes, and act the parts.
To make the skits engaging, educational without wasting excessive class time, the yeshiva installed a large greenscreen filming studio. “The greenscreen was a hit for the students,” said Rabbi Yaacov Sebbag, principal at ULYOP. “One of many tools we have that not only allow students to express their talents. It also encourages them to master and delve into the learning knowing they will be a part of a production. Every talmid in the school was involved in this production without taking away the usual weeks of time from Torah learning.”
This is one of many projects that ULYOP has done to involve the students and their families into the chassidishe avir of the yeshiva.
To help bring the farbrengen home, and make every home a dira bitachtonim, each child was sent home with a Yud Shvat Home Farbrengen Kit containing grape juice, a kelechkeh, mezonos, a candle, the Rebbe’s kapitel, Divrei Torah and more. The kits were assembled by the students of the sixth grade.
A parent remarked, “I was impressed and excited to see my son come home from school with excitement for his skit and for the home farbrengen. He said, ‘I have a surprise for you, but you have to wait for the Moitzei Shabbos event!’ It’s in projects like these where I see a huge difference in my son’s outlook towards Yeshiva.”
Teachers were excited to see students come to school on Sunday abuzz with talk of the Farbrengen. Productive, Torah-based, activities like this fill the student’s minds and thoughts with kedusha.
With many more projects planned, ULYOP is confident that students will be able to grow tremendously, especially during these trying times.
