Students of the Lubavitch Boys School in London enjoyed a packed Chanukah schedule, beginning with building a giant Menorah for the front of school.
The boys helped cut the wood, sand it down, put it together and paint it gold. The Menorah is proudly standing in the front of the school, visible from the main road.
Each day of Chanukah all the children gathered at the end of the school day to light the Menorah, while enjoying music and Chanukah treats.
The menorah was lit each day at exactly Plag Haminchah, making this the very first menorah lighting in the city each day of Chanukah.
Party and Talent Show
On Tuesday, the seventh night of Chanukah, parents and families came to a grand Chanukah lighting, with doughnuts, hot latkes, live music and talents performed by the children.
The boys showcased their various talents in front of the school, including acrobatic, singing, unicycle riding, telling jokes and riddles. The grand finale was a fire and juggling show by three students.
In addition, the school held its 10th Menorah creating competition for new and original ideas. The first place winner went to a student who made a menorah out of salad cress. There was a menorah made out of potatoes, resembling what a boy’s Zaidy used in Russia.
One menorah was made out of nine spoons, based on the book “Nine Spoons.” Other Menorahs included a Macabee Menorah, world maps, olives, cars, Pushkas, a stadium and lots more.
The children participated in a grand Chanukah auctions, where each class was able to “purchase” prizes for their class with the Chanukah gelt their classes have earned. Classes earned prizes, drinks, and even a Pizza party and a class BBQ.
