Chabad Lubavitch of Southwest Florida under the leadership of Rabbi Yitzchok Minkowicz held a Megilah reading in Edison Mall in Fort Myers for Israeli store owners and employees on Purim day.
Inspired by the concept of Mishloach Manos, the store owner surprised guests and generously handed out products to those in attendance.
When one woman wished to shop and buy another product, the owner insisted to give it for free.
“He insisted it was a gift,” she said. “I pleaded to pay, but with such a smile and joy he wouldn’t let me. And then, he gave the same item to (my friend) Ellen.
“Now, it’s not as if I couldn’t afford it, it’s not as if we were family or close friends… he was just giving a gift with such joy and happiness that I can’t get it out of my head. It just might be the nicest, kindest most genuine act of giving I’ve ever seen.”
Later in the day, a large Purim party was organized by Chabad Lubavitch of Southwest Florida for community members. Joining the celebration were Rabbi Minkowicz’s parents Rabbi Leima and Shoshana Minkowicz from Crown Heights.
