Labour Minister of Israel Eli Yishai paid a visit this week to the diamond exchange in the city of Ramat Gan to discuss the international financial crisis with stock market heads Avi Paz and Yair Cohen.
The minister met with Chabad’s Shliach to the stock market Rabbi Chagai Helevi who presented him with the most popular spot in the complex: the diamond exchange synagogue.
“The shul was founded by Chabad three years ago,” Helevi told the minister. “2,800 members of the stock exchange took part in a campaign to write a new Torah scroll.”
Yishai, chairman of the religious Shas party, seemed impressed. “It is amazing to see where diamond merchants draw their inspiration from,” he commented. “In the merit of the Torah, may the Jewish people live peacefully in their land and may G-d guard our soldiers.”
