In the wake of the tragic events that unfolded on October 7, 2023, when our fellow Jews in southern Israel were subjected to a savage attack by Hamas terrorists on Simchat Torah, the global Jewish community has united to respond with unwavering strength and determination.
The attack, the most deadly in the past 75 years, has not deterred Jews worldwide. Instead, it has ignited a profound and heartfelt response. The message is clear: The Jewish people will not give in to terror.
In solidarity with our brethren in the Holy Land, a unique Mitzvah campaign that has galvanized 358 Jewish communities (at the time of this writing) raised nearly 100,000 Mitzvahs with pledges from community leaders to raise another 500,000. Organizers say the goal is to reach One Million acts of kindness, righteousness, and good deeds for the safety of Israel, the recovery of the wounded, and the safe return of those who are captive. This campaign is a powerful demonstration of the tremendous unity and indomitable spirit of the global Jewish community, even in the face of adversity.
“The Rebbe always reiterated that everyone holds the power to make a lasting difference, and each action carries the potential to tip the scales and bring Moshiach,” says Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, Vice Chairman of Merkos L’Inyonei Chinuch and founder of the OneMitzvah platform. “In times like these, it’s important for people to know that they can make a difference no matter where they are; every Mitzvah you do has infinite power.”
The campaign is hosted on OneMitzvah.org, a project of Merkos 302, and is amongst the various initiatives and resources launched by The Israel Response Desk at Merkos 302 since the start of the war. The desk aims to help Shluchim and their communities respond to the sudden catastrophic events in the holy land with programming and resources inspired by the Rebbe’s guidance throughout the years.
Hundreds of communities and social media “influencers” worldwide are utilizing the OneMitzvah platform as a practical opportunity for their community members and “followers” to show solidarity and bring protection to the holy land. “During these challenging times, being able to uplift people by teaching them the power of a mitzvah and how they can make a difference for those who currently need protection is tremendous,” says Rabbi Shmaya Hecht, Director of Chabad Jewish Center of Oxford, CT, who incorporated the OneMitzvah initiative as a practical takeaway from the “United for Israel” event last week in Oxford.
