What could draw away well known Israeli Minister and former Ambassador Ron Dermer from his all important visit to the White House on behalf of Israeli National Security? A surprise visit to his Chabad Rabbi and personal friend Rabbi Sender Geisinsky of Chabad of Bethesda, Maryland.
His surprise visit was the culmination of a day full of surprises orchestrated by the Chabad of Bethesda Community and Rabbi Geisinsky’s wife Nechamie in honor of their beloved Rabbi’s 40th Birthday.
When Rabbi Geisinsky opened the doors of the Chabad Center this past Sunday morning for the daily minyan, he was greeted by a lot more faces than on a typical day. 40 men had come to don tefillin as a Mitzvah gift to commemorate the milestone. Following the minyan, the rest of the community came to share in the moment, enjoy a wonderful breakfast spread, and share l’chaims with the Rabbi. Rabbi Geisinsky became emotional at the outpouring of love from the community that he, his wife, and family have devoted 16 years of their lives to.
As the event was wrapping up, the door opened one more time and in walked Ambassador Dermer into the Shul that was, until recently, his and his family’s Shul for over eight years. After a heartfelt embrace, Rabbi Geisinsky gave a bracha to the Ambassador for continued success in his efforts on behalf of the Holy Land and the Jewish People. The Ambassador then reciprocated with a birthday bracha to the Rabbi in which he invoked a well-known story between the Rebbe and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. He then stayed a while to catch up with many long-time friends among the community including Rabbi Bentzion Geisinsky, Executive Director of Chabad in the Bethesda-Chevy Chase area. After which, the Ambassador jumped back into his waiting vehicle and headed straight into Washington
