The space shuttle Enterprise made a spectacular arrival to NYC on top of a Boeing 747 Friday morning.
Crowds gathered on either side of the Hudson River as the plane and the shuttle made a low flyover- reportedly 1,500 feet– above the area before landing at JFK Airport.
Crown Heights residents also viewed the flyover, with students of Oholei Torah enjoying a viewing from the roof of the boys school on Eastern Parkway.
Strong winds led to some concern as to whether the plane and shuttle could fly Friday. NASA gave the official ‘go’ a few hours earlier.
The Enterprise’s trip included flyovers over parts of the city and landmarks including the Statue of Liberty and the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum on Manhattan’s west side, before landing.
The shuttle will begin preparations to be displayed at the Intrepid Sea Air and Space Musuem while at Kennedy Airport.
I was at JFK yesterday morning and i saw it parked over there. was cool…
The shuttle was honored, and honored the great state of NY, by flying over the Statue of Liberty, etc..People who were lucky to see this were THE PEOPLE!!!

its sooo cool i wish we would c 1 flying here in miami beach
The space shuttle cannot fly at low speeds horizontally like you see here, and therefore to transport it, it gets attached to a “carrier aircraft”, in this case a Boeing 747, and is flown while piggy-backing on the 747. The shuttle is the airplane on top.
That’s because it is.
