Rabbi Raphael and Goldie Tennenhaus, Co-Directors of Chabad of South Broward in Florida for 44 years, have been in Israel since Sukkos. The energetic couple was visiting for the holiday of Sukkos and was there during the horrific attacks on Simchas Torah. The couple did not return home to the United States, they immediately jumped in to join the spiritual ‘war effort’ by Chabad in the holy land.
The first few days, Rabbi and Mrs. Tennenhaus led a bi-partisan Congressional Delegation to Jerusalem in praying Psalms 122, that speaks about peace in Jerusalem. They also spoke about how the Torah, which began that week from “Bereishis” – specifically starts from Creation to teach that G-d is in charge of the world, and gave the land of Israel exclusively to the Jewish people.
Rabbi Tennenhaus distributed the text of the first Rashi, the foremost commentator of the Torah, who elaborates on this subject.
Some participants of this Prayer for Peace also put on Tefillin with Rabbi Tennenhaus.
In addition, during the first two weeks of the Simchas Torah War, Rabbi and Mrs. Tennenhaus did Mivtzoim in Jerusalem, including at the Kosel, the Western Wall.
This week, they visited Army Bases in the South to bring Chizuk to the IDF soldiers on the front lines of the war with Hamas. Soldiers on the Army bases and on the Air Force Bases were extremely warm, receptive and inspired by the visits.
Rabbi and Mrs. Tennenhaus traveled to the army bases with the incredible Shluchim from Eilat, Rabbi Mendy and Chana Klein.
Rabbi Klein and Rabbi Tennenhaus put on Tefillin with dozens and dozens of soldiers, speaking to them about how Tefillin and other Mitzvahs protect the IDF, Israel and Jews around the world.
Rebbitzen Klein and Rebbitzen Tennenhaus baked Challah with the female soldiers, and spoke to them about Neshek, Friday candle lighting and the Mitzvah of family purity.
“After visits to several army bases, they took us to the biggest Air Force base, where F-16’s were continuously leaving to bomb Gaza,” Rabbi Tennenhaus describes. “They asked my Rebbitzen Goldie and I to write a message on the bombs, which we did.”
