The South of Market neighborhood in San Francisco is a patchwork of warehouses, swanky nightspots, residential hotels, art spaces, furniture showrooms and the tenacious Internet companies that survived the tech market collapse.
And a daily minyan!
One of the first activities Rabbi Shmulik and Tzippy Friedman plan on starting as the new Chabad Shluchim to the district will be instituting Shachris morning services.
Working with Rabbi Yosef Langer, Executive Director of Chabad of San Francisco, Shmulik will be Director of Educational Programming at the Chabad SoMa Shul.
“This will be the first Daily Shachris Minyan in Downtown San Francisco,” said Shmulik Friedman, who grew up in Brooklyn’s Mill Basin. Tzippy (nee Levy) grew up in Long Beach, CA.
Although a lot of building has gone on in recent years, the area is still not densely developed, yet they are also launching this month a Friday Night ‘Happy Hour’ and Shabbos hospitality.
They are moving with their 2 boys – Moshe and Dovid.
