Three Jewish men in uniform sit down for Seudah Mafsekes, their final meal before Yom Kippur at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Sharana in Afghanistan.
And it’s not the beginning of a joke.
Staff Sergeant Ryan Dean, Captain Eugene Gross and Rabbi Colonel Jacob Goldstein spent the holiest Jewish day of the year high in the Hindu Kush Mountains near the Afghanistan-Pakistan border.
For their meal, they had Meal Mart Passover Beef Goulash and Chicken, Manischewitz Matzo Ball Chicken Soup, challah, Osem Mediterranean Olives, Kedem tea biscuits, La Briute Beef Stew, Kedem Grape Juice, oranges and kiwis.
But they were grateful for what they had. “We had a mezuman,” Captain Gross emailed COLlive.com.
He added, “Please say extra tefillos for the safety our troops.”
