Two weeks after having a mysterious dream about meeting Republican NYC mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa and asking him to join forces with Independent candidate and former Governor Andrew Cuomo, Moshe Spern says that his dream came true in an unexpected way, Belaaz News reported.
Spern, president of United Jewish Teachers, told Belaaz he encountered the Guardian Angels’ founder when both paid a visit at the same time to the Rebbe’s Ohel in Queens on Motzei Shabbos, just days before the upcoming Mayoral Election.
After approaching the candidate and wishing him luck, Spern made his plea. “I said, ‘But Curtis, I have to ask you to please unite with Cuomo,’” Spern told Belaaz. “I said, ‘We’re scared.’”
According to Spern, Sliwa initially responded that the decision was “up to the voters.” As Spern respectfully pressed the issue, saying the Jewish community is afraid, Sliwa began to walk away.
However, a person accompanying Sliwa remarked, “It’s too late.”
Spern replied, “It’s never too late. It’s never too late for unity.”
During the visit, Sliwa, who is facing Democrat socialist Zohran Mamdani and former governor Andrew Cuomo in the upcoming election, wrote a Pan note and said a prayer at the Rebbe’s gravesite.
He later wrote on social media about the visit: “My relationship with the Lubavitcher Rebbe is deeply personal. It began during the Crown Heights riots after protecting the community, the Rebbe gave me two dollars for charity and a blessing—“Rebbe Dollars.” One of those blessings saved my life during a shooting. That kind of protection changes you.
“Now, as we head into the final and toughest stretch of this campaign, I’m here at the Ohel, the Rebbe’s resting place, to pray for strength, wisdom, and the blessing to finish this journey in a meaningful way.”
Sliwa has a longstanding friendship with the Jewish community, and the Guardian Angels patrolled Crown Heights during the riots in 1991. He visited the Crown Heights neighborhood in recent weeks as well, joining the dancing at Simchas Beis Hashoeiva and visiting Rubashkin’s Sukkah and other locations.

Lots of Republicans I know, even non-Jewish ones are voting for Cuomo, even though they dislike him, because they realize there are only two possible outcomes in this election:
1) Sliwa supporters vote for Sliwa and then Mamdani wins.
2) Sliwa supporters vote for Cuomo and Cuomo wins.
Every vote for Sliwa helps Mamdani.
Wouldn’t the vote for sliwa take away on fron mamdani too? I see how it doesn’t help coumo win another vote against mamadani but its still not the same as voting for mamdani
The people who vote for Sliwa are not people who would otherwise vote Mamdani.
It’s the anti Mamdani vote that is being split between Cuomo and Sliwa.
Unfortunately, and very sadly, this is indeed accurate. I desperately wish they would have joined forces.
Cuomo did a great job of taking the “Cuomo supporters vote for Sliwa and Sliwa wins” out of the discussions.
Cuomo barely has any supporters. His support is primarily “I’m going to hold my nose and bite for Cuomo so Mamdani doesn’t win” voters
Without coumo there’s a chance for a rep. Mayor since mamdani is so far left
i’m very curious why the script wasn’t flipped and people weren’t advised to vote sliwa. since – according to the current logic – the only way to defeat mamdani is not to split between sliwa and cuomo, it shouldn’t matter whether all vote for sliwa or cuomo, as long as all do for one of them. so why not sliwa?
Sliwa is definitely the better choice. People fell for the “I’m the only one that can beat Mamdani” promotion. Honestly, Cuomo has nothing more to offer. He can’t even run behind a better catch phrase explaining why he would be a better Mayor.
Vote Sliwa. Do your “hishtadlus”. Let Hashem do the rest. How this community has the moral conscience to vote Cuomo (after Covid) is beyond my understanding.
…but that this is a noteworthy occurrence publicized here, surprises me. Someone has a dream? Nu, they had a dream. They decide to act on it? Their choice. They color someone else’s visit to the ohel with their socio-political agenda? Their choice. This site decides to publicize that? Their choice. I guess those who think Sliwa should capitulate to the notion that it’s better that people vote for someone they don’t really like, to avoid someone they really don’t like, and not vote for someone they really like, will do anything towards that agenda. Oh, I’d love to see Sliwa… Read more »
Dreams arent reality fortunately, like nightmares
I thought 2020, and very possibly he did, but you already have fraud going on from mamdani side, so why allow him to win fully by voting for sliwa is beyond me
Why dowsnt coumo drop out? Thats the real issue!
You mean for Mamdani! Disgusting
I didn’t buy into Cuomo’s line that he’s the only one that can beat Mamdani….
Vote Sliwa! I already did.
What is actually disgusting is that coumo , a weak candidate with scandals, is your choice to defeat mamdani! It won’t work
The POS already lost to Mamdani once, in the primaries, why is he still in the race?
And the nerve of some people to ask the only Republican in the race to drop out and endorse one of the two Democrats! Insane times.
Sliwa actually could have had a chance.
Guys wake up this guy is not even coming close to win , coumo is the only option here vote coumo
With the spoiler Cuomo in the race he has a good chance.
He needs to do what RFK jr did.
Kennedy saw he had no chance of winning the presidency and instead endorsed Trump in exchange for a cabinet position. He’s now actually in a place of power to make some of the changes he campaigned on.
Sliwa should do the same. Drop out and endorse Cuomo. Get a position in city leadership where you can actually make change.
Cuomo is the 3rd party spoiler here and the one who should’ve dropped out.
Did anybody even look at any of the details in the Atlas poll from yesterday? Beyond that what Cuomo would win without Sliwa? (Very convenient that they don’t seem to have asked who would win Sliwa vs Mamdani with Cuomo out of the race)
We’re supposed to believe that Cuomo with his -37 favorability rating is the only one who can beat Mamdani while Sliwa with his +22 favorability has no chance? Give me a break.
I am someone who witnessed Sliwa with his guardian angles walking the streets in Crown Heights in 1991. I am very thankful to him for this. However, what he is doing now is very very bad for our city and even more so for our community. Shame on all those that think the “Republican” party will somehow save us. No they won’t. Look at Tucker Carlson and Nick Fuentes Y.S.
We need Moshiach now.
In the meantime a vote for Sliwa is a vote for Mamdani Y.S.
The stubborn in our community will bring this nightmare upon us
Without coumo,a clean candidate with no scandals could have had a chance in the race against mamdani or at least sliwa would have had more of a chance . Many of us don’t fall for this political move to vote for coumo. It didnt work
We would be truly taken aback if Cuomo secures a victory. He’s a master of disguise, an opportunist, and a threat to the values we hold dear. His liberal agenda poses a significant risk that we cannot afford to overlook. It is a threat to the values we hold dear. His liberal agenda poses a significant risk that we cannot afford to overlook.
Mandani, we can somehow curtail his actions due to his open hostility.
Vote Sliwa!
Rabbi Indig, the head of Williamsburg is endorcing mamdami 😡😡😡😡😡IS THERE ANYONE TJAT CAN KNOCK SENSE INTO TJEM?????????
No words. We must vote Cuomo. At this point look at the numbers.. Meanwhile only hashem can help us
Let’s get mandami to back out instead
🤣🤣🤣 cute thought
Sliwa has demonstrated that he cares more about self promotion than about NYC or about us, unfortunately. I urge people to soberly understand that Sliwa has no chance of winning. The polls consistently show that Cuomo can keep the antisemitic Mamdani out of the mayoralty if Sliwa’s voters all coalesce behind him, and that mostly happens whenever voters are asked to consider the race as only between Cuomo and Mamdani. There is no poll that shows Sliwa with a similar chance of winning. The barriers to a Republican winning in a city with a 6-1 registration advantage for Democrats, are… Read more »
Never were more wise words ever said in politics!
Hi Mendel Berghoff! I am very proud of you. Yossie Jaffe
here’s why, Cuomo had his chance in the primary season NY’ers told him NO. His arrogance with a lack of campaigning during primary season is what gave us mandani. I didn’t take the vaccine therefore I don’t have memory loss, I remember Corona. I don’t see a point in holding my nose and voting for Cuomo when it’s not neck and neck, it’s not even with in 6 points. If Cuomo really cared for New York he should have get out of the way and have it one-on-one Curtis vs mondomi “A vote for sliwa is a vote for mondomi”… Read more »
