Trump literally said he would cut SNAP. I still will never understand why so many people in this community voted for him when so many of us rely on this program. The regret must really be settling in when you can’t feed your kids

Relying on SNAP is not living, its surviving. People shouldn’t be chosing survival mode for the rest of their lives…its just not healthy. Im not saying its easy…actually both living and surviving may be hard im saying its our job to do our Hishtadlut, we do our part Hashen does the rest

Really?

No one is choosing to rely on SNAP, they have to in order to feed their children. Most parents who use SNAP are working two jobs or are single parents. Have some compassion and empathy.

He isnt stopping you from buying food, relax. nobody OWES you anything. work for what you need and you will be fine. nobody forcing you to live in one of the most expensive cities in the US. you can move to a cheaper area if you cant afford life here.

Do you know that moving itself costs money and if you are living paycheck too paycheck it becomes a luxury a lot of big families cannot afford

Out of town not cheaper

Cost of living out of town only cheaper housing every thing else like food and tuition more expensive
Many times can’t wing it without owning 2 cars and here you can live with no car…do the research and math properly
Moving isn’t always the answer

Tbf I think the only reason a lot of people live here is because the Rebbe wanted Chassidim to live in Crown Heights. Not sure how the general population feels about that.

The larger the community, the larger the infrastructure.

The majority of people who rely on snap are working two jobs or more and literally cannot feed their children, so yes, they deserve assistance. And moving out of NY requires money as well, how do you expect they pay for that? I don’t know why religious people like yourself seem to have the least compassion for the poor when charity and kindness is literally what our religion teaches us.

I am disgusted to see so called frum yidden say “we don’t owe it to people to feed them.” the christian nationalism mindset has infultrated the community through the maga nonsense

We have Tzedaka organizations for this. The gov is NOTORIOUS for wasteful spending. Every dollar they spend on SNAP cost probably 5 times as much as it should.

it is time for the Jewish community to stop being used by republicans. it is sickening. Old style republicans (Bush, McCaine) were normal individuals and it was a decision to make. Trump is a lunatic. He is dangerous, bad with money, and doesn’t give a rip about us. I am so sad for the children going hungry as a result of his reign of terror. Shame on those who voted for him, their pain is on your soul

SNAP is inherently socialism

If the government didn’t become a welfare state we would not be in this mess.

Cancel these programs and lower taxes. People will keep more of their own money. People will support each other through community and charity.

There is no need for the government to be a middle man, it just adds extra costs and fraud.

If less people worked for the government, less people would be going unpaid during shutdowns.

We are against socialism.

But the Torah teaches us that it’s our obligation to feed the poor.

So, time to step up and fund CSSY!! Don’t expect the government to feed our community.

We need to take it on ourselves, without a SNAP handout.

This is true

This is correct, however the sad sad reality is that for many, the taxes eat out so much of our income that we’re also struggling to put food on the table even without government help. It’s sad that our money goes on wasteful government programs when we could direct it to our ownif we we’rent being taxed so high

Snap isn’t socialism
Get off your high horse
Be thankful for what you have
Stop worrying about other people getting benefits
There are people who need it
You can always go and ask for tzdaka even if you are making thousands if you feel you need more

Some elements of socialism are allowed in the Torah. Agricultural halacha is an example of that. The Torah is not totally capitalist. There’s a lot of info out there on this topic.

You hope that people will support those who need help. There’s no guarantee. OTOH, Americans let a lot of food and other resources go to waste. Stories in the N’shei magazine and other sources talk about the resourcefulness of previous generations. We view that as old fashioned but maybe it’s time to bring it back.

to stop listening to secular nonsense and read the Torah.

Trump is legally obligated to continue to fund SNA
November 5, 2025 1:54 pm

There’s an emergency fund just for this purpose! Two judges have already told the Trump administration that they need to continue finding SNAP. Trump is the one illegally withholding SNAP and playing politics with people’s lives.

I had read yesterday that they hope to restart the program but those on Snap may only receive half of what they usually get until the shut down is over. Time to take advantage of neighborhood pantries

It’s the democrats at fault
November 5, 2025 4:51 pm

I’m not sure why you’re angry at trump when the democrats are the ones not helping to end the shut down

Today in America we are used to a higher standard of living and SNAP helps to provide that. Due to the shutdown, tariffs, and runaway inflation, it may dial down this inflated standard of living. Regarding the cost of living comparison between Crown Heights and other American communities, it depends on what each family needs and how they want to live. Out of town may or may not be cheaper. A lower standard of living is usually cheaper so it really depends on the specific community.
