A far-right lawmaker in the Polish parliament used a fire extinguisher on Tuesday and put out a candle on a menorah that was lit for the Jewish holiday of Chanukah.
All major political forces quickly denounced the incident carried out by Grzegorz Braun, and said there would be no tolerance for antisemitic and xenophobic behavior in the Sejm, the Polish parliament.
The speaker of the parliament, Szymon Holownia, called the act “absolutely scandalous” and excluded him from the day’s parliamentary proceedings. He said he was reporting him to prosecutors.
“Poland is home of all religions,” Holownia said.
TVN24 showed footage of Braun with a red fire extinguisher putting out the fire and causing smoke or haze to fill the area. The parliamentary proceedings were temporarily suspended.
New Prime Minister Donald Tusk called the incident a disgrace and said such a thing should never be repeated. Tusk was elected on Monday and gave his inaugural speech to parliament on Tuesday, pledging to demand that the Western world keep up its help for Ukraine.
Braun, a pro-Russian member of the Confederation party, in the past has falsely claimed that there is a plot to turn Poland into a “Jewish state.”
After the incident the candles were lit again.

This is raw Polish antisemitism coming from the core of centuries of Jew-hatred.
My Father ah would tell me how he experienced the wrath of antisemitism growing up in Poland.
He would say that no money in the world would be enough for him to step into the Jewish blood-soaked land of Poland.

Oh gosh. Why does everyone hate jews?
There are plenty of decent non-Jews in the world who are on our side, as we see in this very article. Those who do hate us, such as this Braun fellow, are the darkness that hates those who bring light into the world, and who disappear in the face of that light.
The church teaches Jew hatred at a vey young age.
This might be surprising to some but yiden lived in Poland for over 1000 years while the German’s, French, Russians vichulu were considered the antisemites the poles were the better guys who tolerated Jews and gave them opportunities to prosper. They were definitely antisemites specifically during the WW2 but for some reason they get a bad rap while between all the makos they were from the lighter ones ( just tells you how dark this galus is…..)
We’ll go with that.
Why make up stuff in the name of the rebbe? See Toras Menachem 5751 vol. 3 p. 345 that Poland was better to the yidden than many other countries. Additionally, see Toras Menachem 5750 vol. 2 p. 497 the discussion with D. Chase, the rebbe does not specifically talk about Poland he mentions other countries in the region where there’s no future for the younger generation and therefore the younger generation should emigrate, he does not mention anything about antisemitism being the reason for this stance.
I remember right after the October 7th attack the former president of Poland got interviewed and the reporter asked him why is there no terrorist attacks in Poland and he said because we don’t allow any Muslims in our country and a lot of people said his right and that we shouldn’t allow any Muslims in are country i said from the beginning that is islama phobic and disgusting to categorize Muslims as terrorist But now we see the truth the truth is that we need are Muslim brothers Islamophobia and antisemitism is the same thing they go together when… Read more »
It’s not our job to stand up for them
(And don’t bring the “light unto the nations” blah blah blah, we have chassidus so we should know our purpose in this world, not trying to find one that will fill the hole inside and make us feel good)
Then explain: why is that same president of Poland standing up for Jews here?
And are you seriously claiming that it’s worth it to import potential terrorists, risk attacks on Jews (and non-Jews), etc., just so one anti-Semite doesn’t put out a menorah?
In Mishlay Shlomo says not to grab a dog by it’s ears. R’ Avigdor Miller explains that it means we should not grab a hold of an issue and make it our own. By taking a side in a fight between 2 groups, (in this case poles vs Muslims) we are making the fight our own and end up winning new enemies.
With that said, I wish both sides Lots of hatzlacha in their fight and want no part in it.
If I remember correctly, the Rebbe did not send a shliach to poland for many years.
So I can’t understand what changed?
When people started doing what they like
Yes most shluchim went on shlichus after gimmel tammuz
And no it’s not what WE want it’s what the Rebbe wants
Stop the hate against the rebbes people that are standing on the front line literally being מוסר נפש every day
What I recall, was that the Rebbe wanted to help those Jews living in Poland to leave for Israel or elsewhere.
The Rebbe quotes a Gadol or a Rishon, that Po-Lin ( Poland ) means here we will stay but only temporarily, and now is that temporary stay is over.
The Rebbe did not want Jews to go back and try to resettle in Poland, though he did not say the same for Germany.
I remember years ago I saw a clip of the chief rabbi of Poland came to the Rebbe on Sunday by dollars asking for a Shliach a representative of ChaBaD in Poland. I don’t remember the details, but the Rebbe wasn’t accommodating to his request. If someone knows/remembers the details, please share !!
Moshiach Now
I remember Dovid Chase went to the Rebbe and asked for a shliach to be sent to Poland and also a Sefer Torah. I don’t remember exactly what the Rebbe responded but it was clear that the Rebbe held very strongly against doing so.
What year?
The Rebbe was adamant about not sending Shluchim to Poland. Too much Jewish blood spilt there. Even while the former USSR was having a Jewish renaissance and dozens of shluchim started to go there, Poland was off limits. It was only after the year 2000, did that policy change. Nishtana Itim.
He told mr David Chase “Your life mission is to get the Jews out of Poland!”
Nothing has changed! No Jew should ever step into polish soil. It’s seeped through and through with Jewish blood!
It’s not shocking
What a real ignorant twit. He is willing to engulf the area and himself in toxic smoke way before he reached the menorah which was a controlled fire.
This was not out of safety this was out to extinguish our Jewish flame, what an idiot!
I hope he knows how rude and stupid he is
And he gets punished for it
He would never ever extinguish our flame!!! At best he harmed himself!
You’re 100 percent right
He thought the parliament was on fire
Of course it’s a vile act, but I do give him credit -unlike most other villians who sneak attack, he brazenly did what he thought was an honorable thing, unabashedly, publicly, which is helpful too, knowing one’s enemy. He did his thing, and he will now hopefully pay the price.
would he prefer to live in an Islamic state?
What was the man filming the video saying?
Lithuania was worse for longer .
My grandparents escaped from there before ww2.
To be fair not all Polish hate us
In fact Poland was the only country to have a Jewish king.
“Katznellenboygen ”
And Jews were welcomed there to escape Rhineland pogroms etc long ago.
Note reaction of Polish government is against that neo Nazi.
America has the Squad like Omar and other antisemities on Congress .
Our major universities even more anti semetic .
So let’s not judge all Polish people from the action of a fringe far right bad person.

She should be thanked. Who is she?
Reuters identifies her as Magdalena Gudzinska-Adamczyk, a member of the Jewish community.
