Update on the condition of Shmuly Oirechman, the 4 year old son of Rabbi Schneur and Chana Oirechman, Shluchim to FSU and Tallahassee, Florida, who was badly injured by an arrow on Lag Baomer.
Today was Shmuly’s first appointment since the operation last week to repair his eye.
After last week’s 3-hour surgery, surgeon Dr. Steve Schwartz said it’s the most severe injury he has ever seen in almost 30 years. Still, he was able to reattach the retina, something he originally told us he wouldn’t be able to do. In his words: it was a miracle we were able to do that.
Today, the doctor said the eye looks good, and he is very happy. The doctor sees the miracle of what Shmuly has experienced so far. He ordered expensive pictures to have for himself to show other doctors the miracle that was accomplished.
As he told me, “This is no different than all the miracles that you rabbis talk about!”
There is a long road ahead of us. We have to come back to see the doctor in a month and then we will know if he needs any more surgeries. Only in a year will we be able to tell if he will be able to regain some of his vision. For now, Baruch Hashem he can see light!
The fact we had such a positive report from where we were last week is truly miraculous and my wife and I thank everyone from around the world for all your tefillos and mitzvos that you have done and continue doing for our son Shmuly.
Words can not describe our thanks to all of you! But know we have seen the true meaning of the words we are one family!

In addition to being able to distinguish light from dark, Shmuly needs to regain vision in his eye. The Aibershter can appoint Doctor Schwartz as the shaliach to make it happen.
