Hershel Weinberger, 9, OBM

Shmuel Hershel Weinberger, a young boy from a Chabad family in Chicago, passed away on Wednesday, 5 Av, 5781.

He was 9 years old and passed away after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle.

At 8 p.m., a 48-year-old man was driving north in the 7300 block of North Sacramento Avenue when he hit the boy, who was riding his bike across the street as he headed east on Chase Avenue on the north sidewalk, CBS2 reported.

Chicago Hatzolah rushed to the scene, and he was transported to the hospital but unfortunately, he passed away.

Police are investigating the incident.

Hershel, as he was called by family and friends, is the son of Shamai and Sara Leah Weinberger, a Chabad family who lives in West Rogers Park, Chicago.

He was a student of Seymour J. Abrams Cheder Lubavitch Hebrew Day School in Skokie, Illinois.

“It’s a tragedy that there are no words for,” said one of the Shluchim in Chicago.

He is survived by his parents and siblings.
