The direction was clear for all to see – this path leads to Mezritch. Although the children walking down the pathway come from Pennsylvania and New Jersey, these young shluchim, students at Cheder Menachem – Tzeirei HaShluchim of Central Jersey – know the direction they are headed.
This Thursday, to mark the 200th anniversary since the Alter Rebbe’s passing, the students undertook to increase their learning of the Alter Rebbe’s writings and teachings. Besides a weekly focus on the Alter Rebbe’s Shulchan Aruch and Hayom Yom, each child took another teaching of the Alter Rebbe to focus on and depict as a preparation for 24 Teves. These beautiful illustrations became the foundation of an interactive display – the path to Mezibiz.
Thursday morning, the students entered the school to find themselves at a crossroads. The path led them to 28 illustrations of the teachings of the Alter Rebbe. The students were able to interact with the display by answering questions through a special hunt. Later in the day, the students themselves created a mini museum of the Alter Rebbe’s life, turning their rooms into beautiful exhibits.
The students enjoyed acting as tour guides – explaining the Alter Rebbe’s campaigns in Eretz Yisrael, Kollel Chabad, the writing of the Tanya, acting out the story of 19 Kislev. A burning house depicted the Alter Rebbe’s last days in Liozna and a path showed his flight to Piena – Haditch. The children were excited, learning and teaching – internalizing the meaning and message of the Alter Rebbe.
For the young Shluchim of the Cheder, this is not just a special day. It is part of their story. Each of these students travel a half hour to an hour and a half to come to the Cheder – an oasis of learning and growing. This special educational opportunity allows them to interact with young shluchim just like them, in an environment of shlichus and chassidishkeit, with dedicated teachers & staff. The commitment these children & their parents exhibit daily towards Chassidishe chinuch is the continuation of the path to Mezibuz – The Alter Rebbe’s legacy.
Please help to support the education of the Tzeirei HaShluchim by purchasing a raffle ticket at ChederNJ.org, or sponsoring a day of learning. Your support ensures another day of learning for a young Shliach.
