Over 150 people attended an event to mark the Shloshim – 30 days since the passing of Dr. Yaakov Hanoka obm at The Beis Medrash on Monday night.
Rabbi Motty Lipskier, Director of the Beis Medrash, began the program by introducing Rabbi Nissen Mangel, a long-time friend of Dr. Hanoka. Rabbi Mangel described Dr. Hanoka’s early days on campus where he first met Chabad.
Rabbi Binyomin Klein, the Rebbe’s secretary, spoke as well, describing Dr. Hanoka’s days in 770.
Rabbi Lipskier encouraged the crowd to learn from Dr. Hanoka’s example and make set times for Torah learning.
Rabbi Yitzchok Hanoka, son of Dr. Hanoka, entertained the crowd with some childhood memories of his father. He also made a siyum on the entire shisha sidrei mishneh. Dr. Hanoka’s grandson Shmuly Bronstein shared some memories of his grandfather, fondly known as “Nono.”
The evening concluded with the haschalas sefer Torah which is being written in memory of Dr. and Mrs. Hanoka.
