An event will be held to mark the Shloshim of Brana Sheina Deitsch, who passed away a month ago at the age of 72.
Born Bonnie Shatzman in 1942, she was the oldest of 3 children in a small town in Connecticut. During her time at Beis Yaakov high school in New York she made lifelong friends, became involved in Lubavitch and eventually met her future husband, R’ Mordecai Deitsch.
Together they raised their family in Crown Heights, living under the inspiration and guidance of the Rebbe. Their home was a well know destination for visitors and friends of their children who were looking for a lively shabbos meal or a farbrengen.
Brana Sheina was instrumental in starting many projects connected to various mivtzoyim. She was not content to just do them herself, but actively encouraged others to participate as well.
Over the years she was instrumental in Brides and Grooms, the N’shei Chabad Newsletter, Shabbos mevorchim Tehillim groups committing to using her Hebrew name and encouraging others to do as well as well as learning and starting learning groups for women.
Her main focus however was her family. She took great pride in all her children’s accomplishments and was always available to them for a conversation, a compliment or feedback on their latest activities. Some of her children are shluchim of the Rebbe and some are active in their communities. In all their homes, the values of hachnosas orchim and ahavas yisroel are clearly felt.
A website was set up by her family to collect stories and memories from the myriads of people whose lives she touched while living in Crown Heights, and later in New Haven, CT.
The memorial event will take place Thursday, Nov. 6 at 8:00 pm, at Oholei Torah upstairs hall in Crown Heights, for men and women.
