Friends and supporters of Chabad of Orange County, New York, filled the Rushmore Estate Ballroom in Highland Mills on Motzei Shabbos for “An Evening of Laughter & L’Chaim” to benefit Chabad, led by Rabbi Pesach and Chana Burston.
This elegant event of “food, friends and fun” featured a musical Havdalah, hors d’oeuvres, fine kosher wines, cheese and delectable desserts, music and kosher comedy.
17-year-old Duvy Burston of Monroe performed some of his recently-released singles. Duvy, the eldest son of Rabbi Pesach and Chana Burston, is currently studying at a Rabbinical College Achei Temimim in Brooklyn. Along with his studies, Duvy has been using his talent in music to inspire. He has released two singles, Ki Atah Imadi and Searching for You. His Spotify bio simply reads: “Hey! I’m just a teenager trying to add some light to the world. Hope you enjoy my music!” The community members in attendance, many of whom have known Duvy since he was a baby, was “kevlling” watching him perform locally for the first time
Comedian Robert Cait of Los Angeles, dubbed the “chosen” comedian, entertained with his Kosher Comedy. Robert Cait’s brilliant Jewish stand-up comedy has earned him the prestigious title: “George Carlin with a kippah.” “It’s not easy to find a comedian with comedy that kosher, clean and has meaningful messages all at the same time,” Burston said, “but Robert Cait kept the audience laughing for a long time!”
Proceeds of the event will benefit youth scholarships at Chabad as well as The Chai Club – the monthly donation program, www.ChabadOrange.com/ChaiClub.
The comedian was made possible through a grant from the Rohr Foundation. The hall was made possible by Dr. Seth Pulver, owner of the Rushmore Estate and good friend of Chabad. Dr. Pulver has recently turned his family home into an upscale bed and breakfast (www.RushmoreEstate.com). The event was also made possible by the Gregg Wenzel Chabad Scholarship Fund, which was established in his memory by his parents, Mitchell & Gladys Wenzel. Gregg was killed in the line of duty while an officer in the CIA. November 18th would have been his 50th birthday. The event was also sponsored by Gil & Phyllis Goetz in honor of their 59th wedding anniversary, Siggy & Susanne Toback, Lee & Michelle Sentell, Ira & Karen Kanis and Manny & Rachel Reiser.
Chabad in Orange County was founded in June 2004, and has been catering to the community ever since.
