The inauguration of Mayor Domenic J. Sarno‘s historic sixth term was held on January 1, 2024.
Mayor Sarno is the longest-serving mayor in the City of Springfield, Massachusetts’ 388-year history. Mayor Sarno is a friend of the Jewish community is a yearly participant in the Downtown Springfield Menorah Lighting, including this year.
As part of the inauguration ceremony, Rabbi Noach Kosofsky, principal of Lubavitcher Yeshiva Academy in Longmeadow, MA offered words of prayer and unity for the city.
He noted the longstanding relationship with the mayor that dated back to his father-in-law, Rabbi Dovid Edelman a”h who spoke at earlier inauguration ceremonies of the mayor and ended with offering the Birkat Cohanim – the Priestly blessing wishing him the ability to lead the city with G-d’s and with peace.
