A thief struck in broad daylight on Thursday, as the streets of Crown Heights are filled with hundreds of Shluchim during the annual International Kinus Hashluchim.
A Shliach eating at Basil Restaurant on Kingston Avenue with a group of friends placed his Tallis and Tefillin bag near him on a metal barrier.
A man, described as African American, walked by and snatched the Shliach’s Tefillin.
The Shliach jumped up and chased after the thief, with passersby joining the chase. He was successful in retrieving the Tefillin bag.
The thief was soon captured by a group of people, with the help of Shmira volunteers, who held him down until police arrived.
While the thief was being held down, a group of Black passersby began to protest his arrest.
Police are investigating the incident.

He will be released without bail to steal again within an hour or so

Welcome
Thank you shmira for the fast response and help
What exactly were they protesting?
It’s a hard standard to stick to when you’re used to grabbing whatever you want.
!!
Nothing at all 🤣. All they saw was the man being arrested. There’s no shortage of crazy people
What happened to the extra police walking the streets for the kinus big joke .
I saw shmira caught the guy and got him arrested
They’re only on Kingston. Truthfully, they are not doing much
I was about to post the same comment. The police make a big show with JCC machers but don’t do anything. Basil is in 77 pct, why aren’t there officers on BOTH sides of EP?
Nothing happens by chance. Get those tefillin checked out NOW!
כל הפוסל במומו הוא פוסל
Who mentioned posul? You did. I simply stated nothing happens by chance and to check the tefillin. The checking itself brings brochos.
Mir volten im tzerisin oif shtiker iz tzihakt di beiner vi s’kimpt im ganvenen fin ah yid!
Due to the very obvious dangerous increase in Crime affecting Crown Heights, those that can get involved to help out should. All our Young Chevra, Older Mature Working Bocherim & Yungerleit in Crown Heights should be highly encouraged to step up to the plate, to get involved a little & to be active to an extent in helping their community. Older Mature Working Bocherim & Yungerlait should really consider joining either Shmira or Shomrim. We can’t always rely on other people in our community to step up to the plate to helpout, But to actually lead by example and volunteer yourself… Read more »
Without Shmira and Shomrim these terrorists would be doing more harm.
NYPD and the justice system continues to fail.
This is Poshut not ok, these people have to be locked away for good…. and to all shluchim, they are out to get us, please leave your teffilin around you the gantzeh tog.
Beruchim Habaim
I left my tefiliin in 770 once and it was gone so ususally someone moves it on friday so i checked and they were poshut nowhere outside i see a guy walking innocently with my bag so i screamed GANEV! and he dropped them on the grass and ran
P.S. the man is still stealing in 770
Keep your belongings close to you at all times. BTW it took the police a really long time to come (even though they were close by). Seems there is a shortage of cops these days.
…b/c starting Friday night, the idiotic, greedy, selfish Mayor DeBlasio is throwing away a big chunk of perfectly good police officers over the vax mandate!
Call your City Councilperson and call the mayor’s office to tell them to come up with a more common-sense way to fight COVID than their dictatorial measures!
PS: There’s no shot mandate for elected officials (Mayor, city council, state and US Congress, and the like — these big shots are *exempt* from the draconian requirement!)
keep voting democrats this will be all over nyc its only will get worse !!!
Bh they caught that rasha
he’ll be out of jail soon
this will never stop as long we keep supporting the dem policies. voting for the dem mayor will continue and these animals will still be roaming the streets knowing they can do whatever they want and wont go to jail. one of the 1st commandments to the world was to have a justice system , courts , to make people accountable.
To the brave guy who held the thief until police came and wasn’t intimidated by the nasty people around.
Don’t you see the thief’s friends taking pictures?
Watch on the news how the “Hassidim “ hurt innocent people “
Only the liberal, Jew-hating media plays up to their games. Same zevel takes place here in LA
There’s no shortage of crazy people 🙄. Some people don’t care about the full story and that’s why this world is so upside down
what one commenter noted, that elected city officials are exempt from the mandate requiring govt. paid employees to get vaccinated? How would they explain that to the public in a way that makes sense?
were they “protesting his arrest??”
This thief should get life for this to stop future crime (god knows what else he might Ch’vsh do in his rotten existence)
