Elon Musk sometimes doesn’t do enough research about something, or isn’t aware of nuanced sensitivities. I’m not saying he’s right, the opposite, but I don’t think he did it knowing the full context. The problem is that he’s not as knowledgeable as he should be in some nuanced things

Musk gets away with speaking without thinking because people in power do not want to upset him, because they want his money and to be included in his circle of influence.
Musk also knows he can make thoughtless statements to German Neo Nazis on one day and travel to Jerusalem and kiss the Kotel the next.
Jews and Gentiles alike will not distance themselves.
It is doubtful the Musk style will change.

From this article regarding current German leadership: “They officially voice support for Israel, but have a number of leaders at present who are literally antisemitic. And in their platform there are veiled prohibitions against basic Jewish rituals – the seemingly innocuous start to attempted annihilation of Jews throughout history.”
