Rabbi Nochum Schapiro, shliach and director of Chabad North Shore in the Sydney suburb of S. Ives, Australia, was named President of the Rabbinical Association of Australasia (RAA), making him the Australian rabbinate’s top representative to the local government, media, and community.
The RAA’s new executive leadership team brings together rabbis who represent the diverse communities across Australia and New Zealand. In his first Presidential initiative, Rabbi Schapiro aims to unite the Jewish community through Torah learning.
“We’re all seeing a heightened appreciation of the value of Jewish unity in our communities,” Rabbi Schapiro said, reserving his new initiative’s details for an upcoming launch date. “We eagerly anticipate the positive impact,” he said.
The newly appointed executive members are as follows:
President: Rabbi Nochum Schapiro of Chabad North Shore, NSW
Vice President: Rabbi Benjamin Elton of The Great Synagogue, NSW
Immediate Past President: Rabbi Yaakov Glasman AM of S. Kilda Shule, VIC
Honourary Secretary: Rabbi Nir Gurevitch of Gold Coast Hebrew Congregation, QLD
Honourary Treasurer: Rabbi Hillel Nagel of S. Kilda Shule, VIC
Rabbi Nati Friedler of Kehillat Masada, NSW
