A Sheva Brachos celebration was held for the newlywed couple Mendel and Rivkah Deutch (nee Kahn) in Moscow, Russia on Wednesday.
Joining the festive meal were family, friends, Shluchim and member of the Jewish community in Moscow in appreciation for Rabbi Shneur Zalman Kahn, the local dayan and father of the kallah.
The celebration was hosted by the Shaarei Tzedek Social Center directed by Rabbi Shie Deitsch, a relative of the chosson.
In his remarks, Rabbi Deitsch noted the significance of the day, the 15th of Sivan. “94 years ago, the Frierdiker Rebbe was arrested by the Soviets for the crime of spreading Torah and Chassidus,” he said.
“And here today, we have honored guests gathering from around the world to celebrate with these two important families and merit to see the results of many years of difficult work,” he said.
Rabbi Deitsch praised the leadership of Russia’s Chief Rabbi Berel Lazar and the institutions he built in Moscow, such as the social center which feeds thousands on a daily basis.
Speakers included Rabbi Kahn and Rabbi Chaim Sholom Deutch, grandfather of the chosson and Rosh Kollel Tzemach Tzedek in Jerusalem, who blessed the couple with following their ancestor’s footsteps.
Following Birchas Hamazon, the crowd stepped into the Tefila L’Moshe shul in the center to daven Maariv.
