On the fourth night of Chanukah, Sheepshead Bay glowed with the light of the holiday as a procession of cars adorned with Menorahs, driven by members of the Chabad of Sheepshead community led by Rabbi Shlomo Z. and Tzippy Cohen, filled the streets of Sheepshead Bay.
With the help of NYPD officers from the 61st precinct, the community spread the warmth and joy of Chanukah to all who passed by. This year, a festive party bus joined the parade, carrying children from the community, who were overflowing with the spirit of the holiday.
The parade culminated at Netcost supermarket, where over 150 people gathered for a grand Menorah lighting ceremony.
Rabbi Cohen stirred the crowd with an inspirational message about the miracle of the oil and encouraged them to increase their Torah study and perform acts of kindness in order to bring about the arrival of the Moshiach. Councilwoman Inna Vernikov, representing our district, addressed the crowd, speaking out against antisemitism and emphasizing the significance of the proud Menorah Parade as a way to demonstrate fearlessness and our commitment to spreading more light in the world.
Following the Menorah lighting, there was a joyful Gelt Drop, with chocolate coins and Dreidel Parachutes raining down from the sky, along with Chanukah music and dancing. A huge round of applause was given to the event organizer, Levi Cohen.
Thanks were also given to Rabbi Itzchak Shwartz, Director of the Outreach program, who organized numerous groups from Crown Heights on every night of Chanukah to distribute Menorah Kits and bring the joy of Chanukah to thousands in Sheepshead Bay, with the hope that this celebration would bring joy to the Rebbe M”HM and hasten the arrival of the Moshiach.
