Hundreds of Crown Heights women and girls joined Sukkos Mivtzoim, under the banner of “Shake Up New York,” on the streets of New York under the auspices of Rabbi Shlomo Friedman, administrator of the Lubavitch Youth Organization.
Central in the activities were the regular visits to senior day centers across New York. In addition to organizing with the centers, this year took on additional efficiency, with volunteers being able to see which centers did not have visitors that day and choose one close by to where they were spending their day.
In a pilot program, sets of Lulovim and Esrogim were available to young women and girls at the Levi Yitzchok Library for them to take with them on mivtzoim.
“Couldn’t have had a more convenient experience,” said Shaina Fellig, extra-curricular coordinator at Beis Rivka, who accompanied 31 8th graders on mivtzoim. “All it took was an email to The Mivtzoim Depot and we were ready to go.”
The sets were sponsored by Esrogino, Shapiro Esrogim Center, Zarchi’s Esrogim, Rabbi Lieberman, and Judaica World.
Special new candle packets with six candles for all Yom Tov lighting were also provided with the holiday guides.
“With the new resources, and many small acts of young women volunteers, thousands more Jews were given the opportunity to do the Sukkos mitzvahs,” said Fraida Warmflash, Mivtzoim team director at LYO.
“We are looking forward to inviting even more women to get involved in these important initiatives,” says Rivky Katz, Women’s division Director of Lubavitch Youth. “Giving women a platform to make a difference, using their talents and skills.”

It was incredible!! Literally groups of girls were coming and going every day of Chol Hamoed. Some Daled Minim sets went out 3 times in the same day… Kol hakavod to all the women and girls who went on Mivtza Lulav!! And to RW for working days and nights to make it happen!! 🙂 😉 Also – yasher koach to Rabbi Gerlitsky, Rabbi Laufer, and Mrs. Chana Morozov for their dedicated work in arranging Nursing Home visitors!! It was an honor to be involved in these great things happening in CH. LYO is one of the best-kept secrets in CH…… Read more »
