After delivering a strong speech last Shabbos in his Mill Hill Shul in Edgware, England, Rabbi Yitzchak Schochet was encouraged by those in attendance to record an abridged version on video for the wider community.
Having observed a return to “old habits” in communal life, Rabbi Schochet decided to hit home and hit hard.
“Last Shabbos I couldn’t help but overhear someone complaining about the start time. Someone else complaining about which room we were using. Then an argument between two members. What happened to ‘new normal?'” He asked his congregation.
“When people asked me whether I thought the pandemic would be a reset for society I replied, ‘it remains to be seen.’ It still remains to be seen.”
“To be blunt, so many people died! Every one of them, one too many. For a whole year no complaints, no arguments, no politics, as everyone put life in perspective. And now what? We go back to ‘normal?'”
