The Shabbat in the Heights weekend experience which was meant to take place in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood after Lag BaOmer is now being postponed to Elul 5780.
“The Shabbat in the Heights steering committee has come to the inevitable conclusion that Shabbat in the Heights will need to be postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak,” organizers from the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute (JLI) said.
“It would not be possible at this time to provide the participants with the inspiring weekend they have anticipated,” they wrote in a notice to Shluchim who organize groups from their communities to join the annual Shabbaton.
Originally scheduled for May 15-17, 2020, the Shabbaton provides a taste of Crown Heights with an insider’s tour of the neighborhood highlighted by a visit to the iconic 770 building – Lubavitch World Headquarters and the Rebbe’s Shul. The weekend will be complemented by three gourmet meals daily.
Participants visit the Rebbe’s Ohel in Queens, and enjoy lively and informative lectures by noted educators, and benefit from the opportunity to meet new friends who share their enjoyment of Jewish study.
The new date that were announced is the weekend of Shabbos Parshas Ki Seitzei, 8-10 Elul (August 28-30, 2020). Organizers said it was “an important and meaningful time to bring Balei Batim to the Rebbe in the weeks leading up to the Yomim Noroim.”
Those that already paid for the Shabbaton in May and don’t plan on participating in August, can request a full refund of monies paid, they said.
