Strong thunderstorms have developed Wednesday evening, prompting warnings across the Tri-State area.
Rainfall of an inch or more per hour is possible in some areas. Lightning, hail, strong winds and even an isolated tornado are possible from these storms.
The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-0 tornado briefly touched down in Springfield, New Jersey.
In Crown Heights, after torrential rain hit at approximately 5:30 pm, downed trees were seen in the neighborhood, damaging parked cars on Carroll Street between Brooklyn and New York Avenues.
Damaging winds, torrential rain, hail and possible tornadoes are threatening the tri-state area until 9 pm, bringing the potential for flash flooding and downed power lines through the afternoon and the peak evening rush.
A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for virtually the entire rest of the region, including all five boroughs of NYC, until 9:00PM.
According to the National Weather Service, New York City and the surrounded areas are going to be drenched for three days in a row.

The parks dept.does not monitor these decaying trees, they just plant them.in fact I called them 6 weeks ago with a tree problem and am still waiting for them.they are responsible for it and should be held accountable.they are putting people’s lives at risk.
I had the same issue with the NYC parks dept.
I’m not sure that’s the case. The tree that fell on Carroll St is close to my home and I know it well, I often passed by. It appeared strong and sturdy up until last week, it had been around for many many years. I am personally saddened by losing this tree, it brought a lot of joy and connection to Hashem and nature for me.
