Crown Heights has a new attraction. It won’t be included in the regular see-the-Chassidic-neighborhood tours which include the Museum and the Matzah bakery.
Rather it attracts fitness-conscious locals – men, women and children.
Yoske Strasberg‘s home garage on Crown Street, which housed a bike lending Gemach, is now also home to the only Crown Heights Bike Shop offering maintenance and repair services.
“Ever since Sam Schechter‘s store on Kingston and ever since I’m living here, I don’t remember there being another bike shop,” Strasberg, a mover, told COLlive.com.
Asked if there was a need, Strasberg said: “The closest place to us is on Union and 7th Avenue or Boro Park. And since I opened the bike Gemach, the volume of people that come here to fix is high. It can be small, such as an inner tube repair, or as big as the chain falling off.”
With the shop, the Gemach and his cycling guidance, Strasberg is turning out to be the useful source for fitness and outdoor awareness.
With 20 adult bikes ready to be lent to men and women, he is looking forward to better weather in Brooklyn this summer. “So far it’s been too hot or too chilly,” he says.
And he’s got a special tandem bicycle, or tricycle, which he says is often used by older people “who do not have great balance and ride with younger people.”

Thank You! I love my bike.
I used to borrow bikes from you last year so naturely I asked for advice on buying a bike. You told me you just started to sell bikes, I said to myself that even if you would be more expensive I would still buy from you.
It comes out that you were $30 cheaper than amazon.com (which was the cheapest web price) thanks a ton!!
