U.S. Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) has sharply criticized President Joe Biden’s handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict during the administration’s final year, calling potential negotiations “a bad deal.”
In a strongly worded statement, Cotton expressed concerns about reports that the White House may be pressuring Israel to agree to concessions as part of a broader deal to secure the release of hostages held by Hamas.
“The only ‘deal’ should be unconditional surrender by Hamas—which is already nearly destroyed—and return of ALL hostages,” stated Cotton, who is chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee.
The third-ranking Senate Republican warned against any arrangement that would require Israel to withdraw from strategically significant areas of Gaza or release detained terrorists.
“Instead, we hear reports that Biden is demanding that Israel withdraw from key terrain in Gaza, release dozens of hardened terrorists for every one hostage, and get back only SOME hostages,” he said.
Cotton’s remarks highlight divisions in U.S. foreign policy approaches toward the Middle East. He also directed a stern message to Hamas and its primary backer, Iran, urging the immediate release of all hostages.
“Here’s the ‘deal’ to offer Hamas and its patron, Iran: you have five days to release ALL the hostages or we ‘unleash hell,’” he said, advocating for a hardline stance against the terrorist organization.
While his comments were directed at the outgoing Biden administration, it carried an unwritten objection to another party pushing for it— the incoming administration of President Donald Trump.
According to reports, Trump’s Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, has been pressuring Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to approve the deal, almost at all costs.
Two Arab officials told The Times of Israel that during the meeting, Witkoff pressed Netanyahu to agree to critical compromises needed for a deal.
An article in the Jewish Press described the deal as “Netanyahu’s complete capitulation over the absurd number of terrorists with blood on their hands being released, as well as his acceptance of a partial list of hostages to be freed alongside the IDF’s withdrawal from large swaths of Gaza.”
It’s possible, they wrote, that “when Trump warned there would be “hell to pay” in Gaza— he didn’t mean Hamas would be making the payment.”
Thought things would be better. And was looking forward to them all being released, without security compromise to Israel.
I guess the only real solution is Moshiach now!
Yes definitely it’s so obvious now that the only option is Moshiah
This is why he is not in the administration. Because he has integrity, and real principles, and is not a film-flam salesman.
Have bitachon in the Aibeshter alone
as Jacob our forefather did, fight on all fronts, you don’t just pray. you plan, implement and also pray
This is exactly what it says there.
Except that it was arranged and pushed by Trump!
Maybe this is a ruse to permit us to bomb them and all of Iran when they slip up. It is an intractable position to be in….Hashem ya’azor!
hard nose, all or none, no negotiation position has not gleaned all the hostages or a war end. I say take what you can get and continue fighting
You do NOT fight a war to free the hostages,
You fight a war to DESTROY THE ENEMY,
you do NOT negotiate with TERRORISTS,
As the saying goes:
“You give them a finger,
And,
They want a hand”.
