In honor of Hei Teves, 100 sets of the sefarim by Rabbi Mordechai Yaffe known as “the Levush” were donated to Kollels in Crown Heights.
The seforim were donated in memory of Shimmy Newfield, who passed away at the young age of 12 in 1998, by his family.
The seforim were distributed before Hei Teves, along with a special kuntres publication on the Levush and his life.
The “Levush,” Rabbi Mordecai ben Avraham Yoffe (or Jaffe or Joffe) (c. 1530 – 7 March 1612) was a Rabbi, Rosh yeshiva and posek. He is best known as author of Levush Malkhut, a ten-volume codification of Jewish law that particularly stressed the customs of the Jews of Eastern Europe. He is known as “the Levush” or “the Ba’al Halevushim”, for this work.
