Who’s idea was this blog and how did Mendel get the job of hosting it? I’m not saying in a bad way, I really like it, great idea, great execution, just curious what the history was.

well done

To 21 – and you think in Nevel their shirts were so shiny and startched? lol To 24 – I was lucky enough to have heard Rabbi Lewin’s recording of this song so 4 comments. 1) Having heard both I have to say Mendel stuck very close to Rabbi Lewin’s interpetation – he did not color it with his own shtick at all. 2) The only reason it sounds a little different is because Mendel does it without music behind it to give it the same feel. Which brings me to points 3&4 3) Rabbi Lewin’s recording (which is beautiful… Read more »

great rendition

Thank you Mendel for yet another beautiful video with a rich explanation and a great Nigun beutifully sung by you. It really warmed my heart and our kids learned it rather easily. I beleive that the composer did it so that the general Tzibur should be able to learn it and sing it Lebedik and easy without complications. You knew how to put the Neshoma to this Nigun.
Thank you!

great job

people cut out the joalousy. why do you always have to think you can do better? when you do it, we’ll judge you. till then shut up

It is a shame that this beautiful niggun composition could not have been sung by its amazingly talented composer, Reb Faitel Lewin, whos lyrical voice would have complimented this pleasing and timely rendition. If at all possible, could we hear Reb Faitel’s rendition of his new peice so that we can hear it with his interpretation. That is not to say that Reb Mendel did not do it justice, but still, we should be able to hear how the composer of this beautiful and catchy niggun meant for it to be sung.

shkoach to the singer and composer – a nice nigun sung nicely nothing more to say except that we are in sfira and there is no reason for negative feedback here – why do u do it???

Thank you

Deep song. I think many people are too shallow for it. So for all you who have something against this niggun: GO LEARN CHASSIDUS! maybe then you’ll be able to “get it”
however: with all due respect, I’m not sure This is a niggun for Rabbi Markel. Then again, a niggun is supposed to be from the heart, not so much the voice, so great job…

Great video, And great song.

As the Chabad saying goes
April 28, 2010 5:29 pm

How do you know if what you doing is good? You chack to see how many misnagdim you have, since there will always be people against good (and jealous of it)
So Rabbi Levin and Mendel, you can both be sure that your work is great, because you have people wishing they can take credit….
Keep up the good work.

Great Niggun

If you quote something, how about quote it right. In the vid you’re talking of, he said ” the point of this blog is for me to sing a nigun, maybe a classic maybe something a little more obscure…. the hope is that either it will possibly teach you a nigun, maybe just remind you of one you know…” Nowhere there does he say anything precluding use of a new nigun. Far from being a “contemporary” composer, R’ Faitel is a bavuste composer of Chabad nigunim. In addition the Nevler sound is readily apparent in this composition. R’ Mendel and… Read more »

The Purpose
April 28, 2010 11:31 am

The originallly stated purpose of this excellent blog was to remind/teach the great Chabad oldies that move the heart and enliven the spirit.

I don’t see the place for contemporary tunes on this blog. Especially songs that klep like a greek in a tabernacle….

keep it up

great song by a great composer!

This Nigun blog

Reb Mendel,
Great idea and a tremendous service to all by bringing the Nigunim in this manner. You ARE the right man for this. You give over a Nigun in the right way and with the right flavour. Also, I am very impressed by your choices and the fact that you include the “Present” in your presentations of Nigunim.
This current choice is indeed very timely and relevant and another GREAT composition by the very talented and renowned Chabad Composer R’ Faitel Lewin.
Thank you both!

Another famous Nigun

Another very famous Nigun by this composer is the well known “Rosh Chodesh Kislev” Nigun.

i gree. why all the negativity? finally someone doing something really nice and all the know it alls come out of the woodwork to make faces but do nothing themself

1) if you look carefully, #1 and #2 didn’t say anything about Mendel, but were merely commenting on his choice of niggun.

2) Avremel would obviously get the blog much more exposure, but pertaining to the blog itself, I’m not convinced he would be better. It’s nice to see a fresh face. As great as Avremel is, he’s already everywhere. I like that there’s something new and different to look at.

Also I like Mendel’s “taam”, because Avremel has a very strong taam of his own, that is very beautiful but sometimes creeps into his renditions of niggunim.

its sounds like a “shoshanas yaakov” . . “vehameivin yovin”

To 3 & 5
April 28, 2010 7:11 am

Can you read? 1 & 2 are criticizing Faitel Levin, the composer. The criticism is clearly offered out of respect for his previous compositions. How about read before jumping to attacks.

Great job Mendel! 1 & 2 tactless… Mendel, Keep it up!

disagree
April 28, 2010 5:11 am

I really like this nigun. Has a nice drive and feel. Sure, it doesn’t match Shuva, but what does? Nice nigun, enjoyed it.

Response
April 28, 2010 5:10 am

to 1 & 2 – I think it’s very rude to say something like that in an open forum. You know what? i think Avraham Fried would be MUCH better for this series. But 1) Fried didn’t offer and 2) Mendel thought of it and is doing it. 3) It’s really nice.

Why does ever comment on a website have to have some shtuch of negativity in it.

i agree

i agree with 1
but would like to point out that this video blog is refreshing. we need more chasidishe stuff on the web
