The Mayanot Institute of Jewish Studies is overwhelmed with gratitude towards our great friends and partners Mr. David and Eda Schottenstein for their extreme generosity, in dedicating the main entrance of our new World Center in Jerusalem.
The Schottensteins are dedicating this section of the building in honor of David’s parents – Tuvia and Lea Schottenstein, with tremendous love and appreciation.
David said that after a successful business deal last month, which involved the sale of 61% of his Privé Revaux eyewear company to the Italian eyewear company Safilo Group, he wanted to show his gratitude towards Hashem “immediately” by making a donation to Mayanot, in order to assist the organization in continuing its mission of empowering the next generation of Jewish youth through education.
David, who founded Privé Revaux in 2017, will retain 15.5% of the equity in the company while other celebrity partners along with senior management of the company and other investors will maintain the rest.
A Privé Revaux press release issued at the time of the sale referred to the company as being, “fueled by a strategic celebrity ecosystem, merged in high caliber social media engagement and strong digital marketing capabilities.”
In reaction to the pledge by the Schottenstein’s, Rabbi Shlomo Gestetner, Dean of the Mayanot Institute of Jewish Studies said, “We are truly grateful for the generosity of David and Eda Schottenstein on their dedication of the ‘Main Entrance’ at the new Mayanot World Center in honor of David’s parents. The Schottensteins have been our great friends and partners for many years. Their donation, which happened right after David executed a successful business transaction, will serve as an educational lesson to our students past, present and future, that when Hashem gives you a bracha (blessing), you immediately give back to the community. That is the Jewish way and reflects the education that he received in his home from his parents and grandparents! We can’t thank the Schottenstein’s enough.”
Rabbi Gestetner also recognized Eda’s parents – Rabbi Yisroel and Chana Sirota, directors of the Jewish Russian Community Center in Montreal, for the holy work they have being involved with for decades on behalf of the Jewish People, and the community from the former Soviet Union.
Rabbi Kasriel Shemtov, Executive Director of Mayanot added, “This generous gift will ensure our continued success in providing students in our Post Birthright Programs, Internships, Volunteer Programs and in other Mayanot programs with a true foundation and love for learning of Torah. The future of our youth is in good hands, thanks to the unwavering support of the Schottenstein Family.”
The new Mayanot World Center, located in the heart of Jerusalem, is currently under construction and is slated to open its doors in 2021. The organization hopes to raise an additional $2 million to complete the project. The facility will serve as the hub of the organization’s educational programming, which provides students from diverse backgrounds from all over the world the opportunity to explore and connect to more than three thousand years of their Jewish heritage.
