Oholei Yosef Yitzchok Lubavitch of Crown Heights took the first place among Crown Heights boys schools in Tzivos Hashem of learning Tanya by heart with 94 average lines per student.
The list of participating Chabad schools worldwide can be viewed at ourbirthdaygift.com. “This is an excellent example of quality over quantity!” said Meital
Khavis, a teacher at the school.
Although the school consists of 55 students, among which 30 participated in this project, their unity in learning helped them achieve a record.
“We didn’t plan to aim this high,” says school director Mila Schneiderman. “After giving the number of lines our students had prepared, we were very surprised to find out from the Tzivos Hashem office that our school got such results.”
The school presents their own gift to the Rebbe by having school until the 11th of Nissan every year. This Yud Alef Nissan each school learned lines of Tanya by heart as a present for the Rebbe’s birthday. The winners were announced by the rally outside 770 on the Tuesday before Pesach.
“Talmidim were so happy, they couldn’t even believe it at first,” continues Schneiderman. “It was beautiful to see their eyes shine when they heard their school mentioned to be the top silver award.
“What amazed me the most is Talmidim’s decision after returning from the rally where they decided with each other and took on themselves to beat this record with 100+ lines average! They tasted winning and are ready to challenge themselves with greater achievements.”
This year, the school had special workshops during the days leading up to Pesach for talmidim to make their own Zeroa and Salt Water, since it was crucial to have it prepared before Shabbos, which they do before every Pesach. They also made beautiful handcrafted bedikas chometz sets with individually wrapped small parcels of bread.
Hands-on learning such as the Pesach preparations and Tanya by heart helped the students welcome Pesach in an integrative way.
